Contrary to Paula’s experience, I observed at least two customers paying with cash while I was waiting for a mobile order. That said, the “cashier” struggled with handling the transactions.
Food wise it was all good. 2 of the 3 large fries I ordered came in the right size container, one was strangely in a smaller sleeve. The two shakes I ordered were also typical Chick-fil-A underhwelmingling sized. For their cost, they should be twice the size they are. Nothing against the McHenry location on this; Chick-fil-A wide this is an issue.
The rest of this review is about the location and design choices. The architects and designers had essentially a blank slate to work with and, in my opinion, after visiting many other Chick-fil-A locations in the area and numerous other fast-food places (Culver’s, Starbucks, etc.), they really dropped the ball. My amateur assessment is that they prioritized regular drive-thru orders and mobile pickup orders at the expense of an easy-to-navigate parking lot AND a reasonably sized order and interior pickup space. I get that they are probably overly busy at the moment because they are new, but the pickup area was crowded with people needing to do a dance around each other as orders were called. Props to the customers, as everyone was very polite and cordial. An extra 6–8 feet of horizontal space in the order/pickup area would go a long way, and it is difficult to fathom why this was omitted on a complete custom build-out.
As for the parking lot, again, it’s amazing how poorly this was designed given how much space the location has. I can only imagine there were constraints to the north with the U-Haul lot because, as configured, there is a single, narrow in-and-out lane if eating in/picking up from inside, along with a dedicated entrance for drive-thru and mobile-ordering pickup. A lane next to the drive-thru entrance is presently blocked off, even though it is marked with arrows as usable.
I live in McHenry and might still consider driving to Crystal Lake for Chick-fil-A during busy hours, just because the logistical experience of getting in and out is so much smoother there. Or, as my kids suggested I may just park in the Uhaul lot and walk over. It would...
Read moreI had went there with family to dine in for dinner and ordered 2 spicy deluxe sandwiches, one with no pickles and one with everything. Most of our order came out wrong. We got the regular deluxe sandwiches instead of spicy, got cheddar cheese instead of pepper jack, the box that said NO pickles came with pickles, and when I asked for half unsweetened tea half lemonade, I was given regular sweet tea and lemonade. My sister who had ordered her food before me had to get up and ask for her food since mine was brought out before hers even though I ordered mine after her. She said the food was just sitting on the counter. I love chick-fil-a and I was so happy when Mcherny announced they were opening one but hopefully the staff working there can work on their skills and get better at taking people’s orders and getting them correct. I’d rather go to the one in gurnee, I have never had an issue there...
Read moreService on opening day with the line backed up was way faster than it is anytime I go now. Today has been the second time now that I’ve had to pull up and wait for my food. I waited almost 15 minutes today just for a breakfast burrito. Defeats the purpose of it being called FAST food. Service is very slow here and sitting at the window listening to everyone run around like a chicken with its head cut off acting like they don’t know what to do makes me think they need more training. Oh, and got a chicken sandwich the other day that was SO greasy I had to just...
