I went through the McHenry, IL Steak and Shake drive-thru late this afternoon to order a shake, not even paying attention to whether it was "Happy Hour" or not. The price I was given after ordering at the speaker was "$1.89", by a female voice. However, when I drove up to the window to pay, the young man taking my card for payment said "$3.7-something" (should have asked for my receipt, I guess), which I questioned because I was given the other price after ordering. When I told him this, he closed the window and briefly chatted with a female coworker (same voice that took my order), then opened the window and both told me "Happy Hour was over 15 minutes ago." I wasn't even thinking about "Happy Hour", just that I was given a different price when ordering and a higher price at the window. I may be wrong, but since it was their error, I thought they should honor the price I was given after I ordered, and I mentioned that to the cashier-- because I think that would be good customer service. I didn't even receive an apology for the error. Neither of the employees seemed to acknowledge that it was not my error, and I was just given blank stares, which I didn't appreciate. But I paid the higher price and went on my way. The shake was pretty good, however, seemingly not as good as the same flavor I ordered last week, for...
Read moreWe all know that during Covid we should be more patient with our fellow humans. Well, my experience with pick up from Steak n Shake was just horrid. I placed the order online in the parking lot, just to give them some extra time since I know they tend to rush with drive through orders. It was very straightforward. Two burgers, two chicken tenders and fries, four shakes. The website gave us a time of when it will be ready. We approached the drive through at that time, and they said that the order wasnât ready yet. Okay, cool. There hadnât been but maybe one car go through the drive through, but maybe the chicken is taking a minute to cook. After we went through the drive through we waited an additional 35 minutes. All of our food was cold, there were none of the sauces we asked for, but the shakes were delicious, so props there. The gentleman who brought the food to the car was also the person doing drive through. He seemed understandably frustrated as it appeared that it was him and one other worker there (this is just from my observations of watching inside). My suggestion is the management actually support their staff during this time, give them adequate people to work efficiently, treat them like they are humans, and your stores wouldnât have as much turnover...
Read moreTerrible.... Can't really say much more. Not only did we get semi warm food with cold buns and a hot dog that was basically hot dog jerky, but it took 30 mins to be told the only reason why our food took so long was because there were no baskets..... 10 mins later the food finally came and it was a disappointment. The iced tea smelt like straight sulfur from well water. ( my food experience has taught me to smell and examine everything I order ) thank goodness I did. We also traveled from 25 mins away cause it's the only other one around us that is close. What is worse is that you get no interaction at all here anymore except for when they bring the food to the counter, so if there is an issue you have to wait forever cause It's a kiosk you now order from.... Honestly the drive thru probably would have been the better option, it seemed like it was moving fast, but I'm sure the food would have been just as terrible...... At this point I find that both the McHenry and Gurnee steak N steaks have gone way down hill. I understand that they may have been understaffed, but jerky hot dogs aren't excusable... Also let I note that for any customer service issues you can only contact through the website, all phone lines are no longer existent.seems like steak N shake itself doesn't...
