If you're in McMinnville, Oregon, a visit to Abuela's Nuestra Cocina is an absolute must. This hidden gem offers an authentic and unforgettable dining experience that will leave you craving more.
We started with the Tostadas de Pollo, which were an explosion of flavor. The homemade refried beans were the perfect creamy base, while the fresh vegetables added the perfect crisp crunch, making each bite a delight. But the real star was the Quesabirria. The meat was incredibly tender, and the consommé was rich, savory, and absolutely out of this world. The cheese pull was nothing short of magical, adding a savory, melty perfection to each bite.
Abuela’s also offers complimentary chips and salsa that are light, crispy, and perfectly paired with homemade salsa. The salsa had just the right amount of kick, making it a great addition to any dish.
The restaurant itself is a treat for the eyes, beautifully decorated with a thoughtful attention to detail. It's clear that the owners care about creating a welcoming atmosphere, and even the bathrooms show that same dedication—especially the women’s bathroom, which features a changing table for little ones.
While the service can be a bit slow, it's completely worth the wait for food of this quality. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the amazing food and warm, family-owned vibe of the place. What I love most about Abuela’s Nuestra Cocina is that it’s family-owned and operated, and you can truly feel the love and care they put into every aspect of the restaurant.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by and indulge in some of the best Mexican food McMinnville...
Read moreTook a friend from Portland here recently for the first (and last) time. Quite disappointing. Poor service, limited entree and dessert availability. Only one chilli relieno iavailable. Only one dessert option. No flan. Had to ask for water as well as refills. Had to wave down the waiter. Alcoholic drinks were small. Prices are steep regardless of the owner's defensive comments to another reviewer. There's No comparison to Molcajetes down Third Street for huge menu options, Very Large and Delicious entrees, enormous Pina Coladas, Great friendly service and REASONABLE prices. Abuela's Chile relieno (if they have any on hand) by itself is $19. At Molcajetes it comes with a tostada and enchilada for $17. And chips with salsa are free Pina coladas are at least twice as big at Molcajetes (,they have 3 sizes). This new place has very poor service, steep prices and a limited menu if what's on the menu is even available By the way, wood can get sticky when dirty, varnished or not, and some of that attempted angelic atmosphere would be appreciated by the staff and actual experience other than the sky...
Read moreToday we took lunch at a shaded outdoor table at this excellent restaurant. The menu is ample but not overwhelming. And the food — outstanding! We began with Ceviche — big chunks of shrimp and bay scallops with red onion, guacamole and a mildly spicy sauce, mounded on two crispy tortillas. The cilantro in the fish was amazingly fresh and tasty — how do they do that? When a Chile Relleno was not available, we chose Pupusas with Carnitas. The cooks have certainly figured out carnitas — tender and juicy. The pupusas were also tender and tasty. The service was good, unobtrusive if a bit eager. Draft beer and interesting cocktails were on offer as well. I highly recommend that you stop here. We’ll certainly be back — and we’ll bring all our friends as well as our out-of-town visitors to enjoy the feast. Oh, and we really want to try the...
