I went here with my wife and her friend on a Thursday evening for dinner when the neighboring restaurants were packed. We didn't want to wait an hour + just to get a seat. Hidalgo had some seats available and we'd been waiting to try it, and I'm a connoisseur of sorts of Mexican food.
It took five minutes for a wait staff member to come out and decide we could sit at one of the empty tables. The menu selection was pretty good, however, we waited another 15 minutes before anyone came back to take at least a drink order. Luckily by then we were ready, but that was just the beginning of an evening of waiting. Chips and pico, which were quite fresh and flavorful, came out another 10 minutes later. After that, my Tortilla Soup took another 30 minutes.
Before then, music started blaring on the speaker above us and the owner spontaneously began to sing. It was a unique experience, though slightly awkward. After 10 minutes of that it dawned on me that this was a mere distraction to divert us from the fact we'd been there an hour with a single basket of chips/pico as sustenance. Dinner was still a ways from coming.
Once our entrees arrived nearly an hour and a half after we arrived, we were treated to food that was satisfying but not enough to offset the wait. Surely it was a nearly full restaurant that evening, but all but a few tables were already dining on entrees when we arrived. There is really no excuse for the long wait, especially when it's complemented with sparse service and NO apology or acknowledgement of the aforementioned deficiencies.
Overall the food is a 4: better than what few Mexican there is in Media, but if they can't sort out the service and kitchen time, I don't know how long...
Read moreOwner was incredibly rude. Waitstaff was shocked & annoyed when we asked for forks. We ordered 3 appetizers for 2 people. It is a BYOB and she brought glasses for the 2 total beers we brought. As we ate, out of nowhere she said we needed to order entrees because we each drank a beer and she “needed to make money”. Proceeded to go on about “having to order both an entree and appetizers,” which we had no idea “was their policy.” As it was our first time there, we simply didn’t know this as I explained to her as she grew more and more angry. She was beyond rude and yelled at us. The food was mediocre at best. I’m not sure if any of the positive reviewers have eaten much Mexican food, but this was sub-par, by far. We went in to simply enjoy a quick bite and drink, and was bowled over by the rudeness, Which left a worse taste in my mouth than the burnt, bland food. I have never written a Yelp review, as I respect that restaurants and their employees work very hard and are trying to stay in business. This is NOT how you do it. We will never go again & do not...

I new Hildagos menu before I went in and thought they fit the bill. My fiancé and I walked in, we were greeted by a wonderful woman, she speaks Spanish and I love speaking Spanish when I’m out to eat. It’s a sign of respect✊🏼 I got guacamole, queso fundito, enchiladas verde half mole, fiancé got the pollo fajitas. The food was perfect taste just like my family trips to Mexico & mi abuelitas cooking! the Mole was awesome, fresh homemade corn chips, & pico could not have been better! Everything was made fresh just for us! Our table was filled with all the best food! At the end of our meal we were pleasantly stuffed. But we took to go a slice of her homemade très leches cake 🍰 it was delicioso! I’m eating the left overs right now and they are still tasty! Go there if you want authentic Mexican food. Next time I go I want her chiles...
