I just had the best breakfast in a very long time. Let's start with the restaurant itself. It's very clean and the staff are very friendly. It's a small place inside so if you have a big party you will want to call ahead. The volume of the music is set so you can talk and hear your parties conversation and you don't feel like you have to shout. Room temperature is set just right where you don't feel like you're freezing or to work you feel stuffy. Staff is very helpful and had recommendations for first time visitors. If you like coffee the cups are big so one cup was enough. Now on to the food. Usually, when it comes to breakfast food it's all the same... So when we ordered our food that is what I was expecting. I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs and Beacon. My wife ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The Eggs are real cracked eggs not powder or from a carton but really real eggs! The Bacon is thick and cut large. You would have to tell them if you like it crispy if not you will feel like you're eating Canadian Bacon lol. The chicken is done in a buttermilk batter that is lightly breaded to a crisp. Laid over a waffle that is sweet from their own recipe with Eggs and Bacon and real cut potato bites lightly cooked with onions giving it a nice fresh taste. The Biscuits for the Biscuits and gravy are home made and most not dry where you feel you have to have a drink with every bite. The Gravy is a Sausage base but does not have that hard overpowering taste of it with fresh ground paper. The combo together was a masterpiece. I give Roots in Downtown Melbourne a 9.7 out of 10. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for food and price. Breakfast and Lunch is when they are open and the place is packed for most of the day. We will definitely be going back. If you like breakfast food like I do this is the place to go. Roots Team you hit a...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Roots early this afternoon after a quick google search. It was around 12:45, and there was one other table occupied. The lady told us to sit wherever we liked. She quickly grabbed us waters, which was appreciated. I ordered a vanilla chai coffee and my husband got the mochachino, we enjoyed both. Upon ordering our food, the server seemed flustered despite their only being us and the other table — and they were already eating, so that was awkward. I ordered the southwest burrito, side of potatoes and my husband ordered the lunch special cheeseburger, side of fries. My burrito was great, potatoes were dry and mushy — wouldn’t recommend. My husband said his food was fine, nothing special. Another party came in around 1:15 and we watched the server grow more annoyed and proceeded to take in the sign displayed outside. We overheard her say multiple times that she “didn't know” about menu items, and that she “just started working here”, which was off-putting. At 1:40, she came over and asked to take away the coffee I was still drinking because she wanted to start cleaning up and I said no. Until we left, she continued to hover/pace around with a wet washcloth inferring she wanted us to leave. She also explained to another customer how she was “so done answering the phone”. It was such a weird experience — both my husband and I have worked in service industry jobs, and are super understanding, but our experience was overall uncomfortable. The country music was awesome, and the decor is cutesy. I hope the owner and/or manager reads this and provides this specific employee with some training. If it wasn’t for her, the experience would’ve been much better. We...
Read moreBy far, one of the best breakfasts regionally. We have been here twice. The first visit, we thought it spectacular. The second visit was even better. One meal was a basic breakfast of two eggs, two pancakes and corned beef hash. Eggs were perfect. The pancakes were just right, not too fluffy nor at all gummy. And the hash...I'm a fan of the dish but rarely order it. Most places serve it too greasy and mushy. The hash at Roots is spot-on. Had a nice thin crust and the flavor is exactly what you want, the idyllic hash taste. Now, the other dish was chicken and waffles with a side of potatoes. The diced spuds were great. The chicken, what I think was a fried breast, had a light breading and the meat was juicy and tender, cooked through and through. It sat atop a waffle and a mound of some of the best bacon I have ever had. Ever. Complementing the dish was the spicy maple syrup with just enough heat to offset the sweetness of the waffle. Oh, there might have been a mimosa riding shotgun. Like the food, it was fantastic. Some places are good and, rarely, some places are great. Roots is great. Keep in mind this is a smaller venue (which I really enjoy) and when they get slammed, things can slow a bit. But it is worth the extra time. If you have the opportunity to try Roots, take it. Great food is hard to find so let's try to keep this place...
