So much potential. So disappointing.
I don't go here often, because it's kind of run-down and not quite clean looking, and I'm a little on the sniffy side about cleanliness around my food. But they have Boar's Head meats and pretty amazing bread, so every so often, I give in to the urge. After today, I probably won't do that again.
I went in on Eclipse Day around 2 p.m. for the first time in about a year. It was pouring rain, so I was kind of surprised that no one was at the counter to take my order. I perused a menu until someone showed up. I ordered a sandwich and a bowl of soup to go. I was waiting for my order when the sun came out and there was sort of a mass exodus to ogle the reappearing sun. No problem. I'm a fairly patient person, and, if I hadn't been afraid I'd forget to come back for my food, I probably would have traipsed out there with everyone else.
So there were just a few people in the store, including two guys. One who had that "new guy" bewildered look, and one who looked harassed and grumpy. So New Guy comes out with my soup all nicely wrapped in cellophane (smart!) and starts putting it in a plastic bag. Next thing I know, Grumpy Guy is completely going off on New Guy because, apparently, soup is supposed to always go in a paper bag so it won't tip over. And, apparently, Grumpy had told New Guy this "every . time . we . have . a . soup . order." Grumpy was trying to deliver his verbal abuse in an undertone, but I'm not as deaf as all that. It was VERY uncomfortable and unprofessional, and if I'd been New Guy, it would have been that last 30 seconds I spent in that place. Because, really, it was way over the top for such a minor offense. It's not like he gave me potato salad instead of vegetable soup, y'know?
As it was, I nearly told Grumpy that he could keep his food and give me a refund, because I don't think anyone, no matter how new, or slow, or whatever, needs to be subjected to that kind of abuse. And NEVER in front of a customer.
So, the food. Soup was good, but cold. I took it back to the office and nuked it for a couple of minutes, and it was tasty. The Reuben was okay, but too much mustard and not enough Russian dressing.
It's the atmosphere, not the food, that keeps me not coming back. And the public abuse of an employee? Yeah, that'll keep me...
Read moreI love this Bogies, I have always been impressed by the service & food, & this is all coming from a "former employee". This is a local, family restaurant/small business that truly cares for their employees & customers. I have been coming to this place for quite awhile, I worked there a summer in college, & continue to recommend Bogies for lunch to colleagues & come for lunch with my dad often. I was trained by Brian, worked with Fred & Hunter - all of which genuinely care about the quality of the food served and service provided. I recommend the Turkey Deluxe with any of the cream based soups :] ^ my personal favorite Honestly, everything I have had has been very tasty; I loved the deviled eggs, dirty chips, side of spiced oil, homemade pimento cheese, corn chowder soup, every single desert option .... & personally know people go crazy over the Shrimp Salad. I tried the "Thanksgiving Sandwich" (carved turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, if I remember correctly) & it was amazing . . . almost as good as the TD. A little sad that it's moved slightly more East - but the new design is fresh & open, & I am now...
Read moreHi, I'm De'Ja and I just wanted to take the time to shout out my favorite deli in the world, Bogies! I've been coming here for a little over 2 years now and let me just say, the food is fresh and amazing every single time! Even down to the specific way I like my bagel toasted, my Bogies family always makes sure everything is made to satisfactory. The staff is very sweet, they always greet me by name as well as other regulars that come by. I mainly get breakfast and with the wide variety of choices they have on the menu, I'm able to still eat a healthy & filling breakfast before my evening workout sessions at the gym. Oh, and a few honorable mentions: some of my favorite lunch items are the corn & bean salsa, cranberry & broccoli salad, deviled eggs, and the mediterranean chicken pasta. All of them are chef's kiss. So please try them and you won't be disappointed!! All in all, I love their establishment and I'm here to stay as long as they are. If you were thinking about trying them out, I hope this review...
