Before entering, we saw that the big booth was already empty. The hostess told our party to wait for 10-15min. ()I thought they were understaffed and needed more time to prepare the table, so we waited. I noticed a couple came in after us and were seated immediately. ()The hostess apologized and said they were waiting on a table. ()We were seated at a table with individual chairs. I side-eyed and saw the big booth was STILL emptied. So during the time we waited, the big booth was unoccupied. "SO why did we have to wait again?" Now, at this table, there are only four chairs. The waitress had to pull another chair for us. ()That chair was covered with food crumbs—not little specks but BIG chunks of food! I had to quickly wipe them off with napkins and hand sanitizer BEFORE one of my family members sat! Finally, we received our food. (*)One of the dishes was VERY salty, "it could kill you" salty. "This is a serious matter because your average customers are middle-aged and older. Young children shouldn't be eating food THIS salty either." I'm not going to lie, the big booth situation was on my mind. While my family and I were dining, no one sat at the big booth, so I thought something was wrong with it, like the seat's fabric was ripped. ()When we were about to leave, I saw that a party of the SAME size as mine occupied the big booth. They only have drink cups on their table, so they were just seated. "There is nothing wrong with the big booth. Why did the hostess made my family wait again?!?!"
Internally, I was EXTREMELY embarrassed and annoyed at myself for recommending this place for my family to dine. I tried to understand because I worked in customer service, too, but this is TERRIBLE!
Coming here is one of the WORST decisions I...
Read moreHonestly, the waitress Mattie was wonderful and handle the unexpected inconveniences in a professional manner. I’m not sure who Suzanna is (hopefully not a Supervisor/Manager), but her entire presence was H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E!!! She spoke to us in a rude manner, her countenance was awful and had NO customer service or professionalism. I ultimately understand the point she was trying to get across but nonetheless there should be a standard Soul Fish Cafe has for their employees when speaking to their guest. I honestly wouldn’t return due to this experience, especially after she questioned me more than once on why I ordered food for someone who wasn’t there and they were closing (which the guest were outside ready to put their own food in their own to go box vs me doing it for them). I honestly haven’t felt the need to ever leave a review even after a bad experience, but tonight was like no other and as a supervisor myself I definitely would recommend Suzanna in particular, along with the other staff to attend an Emotional Intelligence and/or Hospitality/Customer Service seminar. Hopefully, no other guests has this experience; I couldn’t even eat my dish - I literally lost my appetite and was mad about it because I was starving when I entered and was so excited to dine at this...
Read more8/10. Ordered a 4 piece with fries and okra. Made a point of telling them that their fries are saturated with grease and not to use fries as the drop cloth for the fish. Well...I received 4 filets that were saturated, no soaked in grease and so were the fries. Grease dripped all over the condiments and cutlery...it was enough to actually fry a piece of fish. Horrible and a total waste of money. Keep a copy of order number 196 as I will never...NEVER EVER return. My 9/30 experience (see below) should have kept me away but I tried to support the community in which I live. Not again! The entire order went straight to the trash. Had I not gotten curb side pickup, I would have taken the box of grease back inside and demanded a full refund!
On 9/30 I ordered a slice of each: caramel pecan pie, coconut cake, and strawberry cake. All were old and not anywhere close to being fresh. I know these cakes are made by Frost Bakery and are kept refrigerated. The taste was old, the coconut smelled sour, and the strawberry was stale. This never happens at the poplar avenue location. Never! This location is closer and convenient but I will drive to poplar for fresh (not greasy) hot food and...
