I read all the reviews and decided to try for myself.
Junior Kimbrough was playing when I sat down - a Chinese place with real Asians that plays delta blues?? That's super cool!
The food is good, and it has all the staples you'd expect: Sweet & Sour Chicken General Tso's Chicken Kung Pow Chicken Fried Rice Egg Rolls Etc.
I tend to judge these places by the Sweet & Sour Chicken and the Egg Rolls. The Egg Rolls were sliced in half which sounds trivial but it actually makes the presentation so much nicer. They were filled with a good mix of crunch and tender vegetables. The chicken had a nice crunchy outer layer with a softer doughy inner crust, with actual chicken that was cooked tender (fork sliceable) and not overcooked like so many places where it jumps off the table when you try to slice it.
All of the dishes had bona-fide chicken, no Shrek Ears or Chicken beaks/feet, so that's always a win.
The Chinese lady was quick to refill my Coke so another win.
The host was a bearded American-looking man with Chinese eyes and a Memphis accent but I saw him speaking Chinese too, he was personable and friendly. So that's a win for authenticity.
For the reviewers complaining of cold food, that's just not possible - the food sits on a heated buffet, standard equipment everywhere. Here's a tip for keeping your buffet food warm on your plate: take smaller portions and make several trips, otherwise the Broccoli Beef gets cold while you eat the towering mound...
Read moreI am normally not one for buffets, I have had bad experiences. Number one the wait staff is friendly and actually suggested different foods for me to try. I opted to try their lunch buffet and I was amazed. Their selection is small but the quality is well worth it. My wife and I even took our child here and she loved it. Their Soup is not out in a buffet getting stagnant, the wait staff actually asks what you would like and brings it out to you. Small selection means that they offered different types of meat, this wasn't chicken done 18 different ways. Actually this is the first Chinese Restaurant that has actually pleased me in a very long time. The quality of the food, the cleanliness of the venue, and the helpfulness of the wait staff, has you feeling like you are eating in a favorite Aunt's house. I was very pleased with the selection and the quality of the food and recommend this place to everyone I can. This is a little hidden Gem in Memphis and close to bigger named restaurants. This is definitely worth finding. I will close with, I recommend the hot sour soup. I usually turn my nose up at this, but the waitress recommended it so I gave it a shot. You will not be...
Read moreI work out close to this restaurant and was informed it was in the vicinity. I decided to try it. I initially found the waitress to be abrasive and rude when I wished to look at the menu before being seated. Next she apparently didn't think I deserved to get the noodles she was placing on other customers tables. I had to ask after have been seated for quite some time with my order already taken. Next I had to ask for the duck sauce to dip them into. These item are usually placed on the table when seated. Next she brings my entree. I would have been embarrassed to place such a small portion in front of a customer. This was supposedly a dinner portion just shy of $12. I could only have wondered how small a lunch portion would be. The food tasted fair...wok tossed chicken & broccoli hunan style. Nothing to write home about as far as taste. I left hungry and...
