##you can fast forward below...5 stars would be one for each category I guess, so one for our cute waitress, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, 1/2 for food 1/2 for ambiance, nice place and I would give one each there but I could not leave 3 stars...once we walked in, the hostess escorted us to a room that had half the tables full and half not. Now I will preface -I have 2 children, one in high school one in college, and love kids all ages- the hostess placed my husband and I at a booth which at the time, we could not see, there were 4 young children and 2 adults just behind us... But this, was revealed to us just very shortly after being seated. Now we probably could have asked to move, but just taking a break at this place after being on the road for 2 hours battling 24 mile an hour winds in a camper van, with 2 more hours ahead, we were drained and we didn't want to appear rude and make other guest feel bad. So, just think of all the classic kids stuff you may find in this situation and there it is.... ##Upon leaving as we were walking out, I just stopped at the hostess desk and kindly said, 'just a thought for future reference, you may want to consider placing guests at a table near a group of children, as last choice, or if you are full with no other seats available"... The response -"oh well we have to prioritize and be fair to our servers so they all get a chance" -really- , thrown by the response, which also revealed she knew what happened, I just kind of stood there and stared and then I said- "well I think your, guests, take priority over 'fairness' to your servers".....I will say she did realized her comment and did apologize, but it was a simple 'the customer is always right' (and really truly right this time!) moment thrown back at the customers face......So, we thought we found a new spot to stop in between our drive to Door County, but I...
Read moreThe hostesses were not very engaging, verging on rude. Our waitress was very professional and attentive to detail. The food was good. I ordered the gorgonzola (Italian blue) cheese burger with caramelized onions and balsamic glaze. The bun was average to good but the melding of flavors was incredibly delicious! I had ordered the burger medium and it was closer to well, but with juices still flowing. I would order it medium rare next time for the ultimate flavor melding. My wife ordered a Thai-like Flatbread that she felt was alright but would have been very good if the hoisin sauce had been used more sparingly, drizzled rather than saturating the Flatbread. I asked about root beer, and the waitress told me they serve Potosi root beer and it is very good. I trusted her and it is very good! Sprecher has been almost too sweet for me, and so I was surprised to read that Potosi (from a brewery in the town of the same name in Wisconsin) uses pure cane sugar and honey in their root beer. I didn't find it too sweet at all. I also ordered the Chancery's beer cheese soup to go for lunch. That has always been an exceptionally consistent favorite for me. I was surprised when a hearty, hot pretzel was included in the to go bag - I never received that when I order in house. Decor has been the same - Northwoods log cabin we were seated next to in the east side dining room. The upper deck seems out of place next to us but all in all it is very comfortable. The music was different for the crowd. I enjoyed Pearl Jam, Train, and a bunch of other soft rock selections. When they open their enclosed outdoor seating this summer (if our weather ever warms enough), I hope to be able to snag an al fresco table to see how well they cover up the sounds of Port Washington Road just to the west. It would be a welcome option if they cut down...

Came here trying to get the family together and was ecstatic that they were open on Christmas Eve. The waitress was very pleasant and nice. We had 5 people at our table. The table next to us with 4 came in after us and received their food well before us. We received our food with 2 items missing. Asked and received one of the missing items and didn't bother with the second because we didn't want to risk bothering the cook any further. Piece of bread on the left was received with the omelette order. It was a bit cold, barely toasted, and without any butter. We asked if we could get some new toast and have it be just a bit darker. This OBVIOUSLY WAS A MISTAKE. Asking for new toast must have angered someone because we then received new toast that was clearly burnt to a crisp. We received butter on the side as well. An ice cream amount of butter. We understand it is the holidays and there may be tensions about having to work or whatever stresses, but doing this out of spite for some new toast seemed RIDICULOUS. After this we didn't bother asking for the bacon we received fearing they would do something to it out of spite once again. We ate our food, received the bill, and then asked them to take the bacon off the bill since we were charged for it and never received it. Still left a tip for the waitress even though this situation with he food was ridiculous.
I feel bad that I recommended the Chancery to my family. It was a great place years ago but things have definitely changed.
Bad experience won't...
