My original rating was one star with the below review. I am changing my rating based on how the company handled the situation. I received an email within the same day as posting with a request to speak with the manager that oversees all five stores. She was incredibly apologetic, gracious and just wanted to have an opportunity to speak with me and get some clarity on the interaction. I was pleased with her assurances of how the company works with and supports breast cancer survivors (in the past and presently). My experience will inform sensitivity training and general education on how to support purchases for women in need of post operative bras. I hope these measures will ensure that no one feels the way I did in the future and I appreciate their due diligence.
Previous post: I debated on how to share this, as it is a difficult experience to relate. I was given a gift certificate to Allure after my treatment and surgeries for IDC breast cancer. It was a long and extremely challenging road, I was 44 when diagnosed, with no history or genetic disposition, in the best shape of my life with a beautiful family, my daughter only 7 years old. Post chemo, radiation and a double mastectomy, a dear friend gave me a gift certificate to Allure, a thoughtful gesture to help me feel confident and comfortable (maybe even a little sexy) again. When I walked in, I mentioned my situation and my gift certificate. I also asked if they participate with insurance companies to cover the cost of new bras. Most insurance carriers consider the purchase of new bras a covered expense for breast cancer survivors. The woman behind the counter said, “No, we do not do this. I wish they would take us off these lists and rolled her eyes.” I was so shocked, I couldn’t even respond to this. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this comment. First of all, the customer pays in full for everything in this situation and the insurance carrier reimburses the person making the claim. The retailer doesn’t have to do ANYTHING. Not only would they gain more customers, as unfortunately the diagnosis of this horrific disease is on the uprise (1 in 3 women will experience a form of breast cancer in their lifetime) but they would be supporting women who have had to go through literal hell. They even had a poster of women on the wall of women “customers,” a promotional material from one of their manufacturers, with various scars and implants due to this disease. So, they are basically saying they will only work with women who have the means to pay for very expensive bras who have dealt with this disease. Needless to say, I am beyond disappointed with this business and am in no way planning to support them in the future.
I did continue with the fitting, used my gift certificate and they continued to try to up sell me on everything. And never so much as offered any sort of kindness or empathetic sentiment for my situation.
Ladies, please educate yourselves on how the system works and how you want to interact with this community of strong, courageous and inspiring survivors. Instead of leaving your store empowered, I felt incredibly sad and angry that you could all...
Read moreFor the first time in my life, I feel confident in the bra I am wearing because of the expertise and care at allure. I have always found it very overwhelming to go in and purchase undergarments because of not truly knowing the proper size or how/when to wear something. For the first time, I had no anxiety around it because I was not left to my own. Someone went and got the items that fit the criteria I was looking for in the appropriate size and actually asked how things felt and how to wear them. Prior to coming here, I had purchased at least 7 different bras from different locations and returned every single one of them The next day because I truly did not like them/ the fit was not great and I did not want to wear them. (I started to feel so discouraged about this). It is safe to say that I will not be exchanging or returning the bras that I purchased from here, as they are amazing. For as long as I live in Wisconsin, I will be buying all of my undergarments from them and no one else. Not only for those reason but also their rewards program and how they keep track of your what you purchase and what you like and you're able to create a wish list, so you don't have to figure out what it is that you liked, but didn't get and wanted to come back for. Ladies, I highly recommend that you go to a true bra specialist (not a big box store that shall remain nameless) and get fitted properly and be educated about how our undergarments are supposed to sit and feel on our bodies as well as how to properly care for our...
Read moreThis place is amazing! I have spent years being uncomfortable in my bras and hours upon hours of time scouring internet stores to try and figure out what I am doing wrong. I have shipped and returned $100’s of dollars in bras, always dissatisfied with the fit. I finally took the 1 and a 1/2 hour drive to Mequon to be professionally fit. The store is super cute and I was greeted and roomed professionally. Within 10 minutes of being there I was sized and in a bra that actually fit! I was so happy with the very first bra Sara brought me, it fit and shaped me like none had before. How amazing is it that, after one sizing, Sara, is that good that she can guess what bra will work and I will love??
I spent another hour or so at the store, trying on various styles and sizes, learning more from the incredible staff. I left with 3 bras that fit!! Also left myself a wish list of next purchases. My size and preferences were all left in their computer and they are only a phone call or a short drive away to find more bras that actually fit!
I can’t thank Sara and Josephine enough for helping me, you ladies are...
