I wanted to like this place. It’s close to home, had no issues making a reservation, and the menu has our favorites on it but this just didn’t do it for us. If you want to pay too much for mediocre food but large servings, this might be the place for you. I made reservations through OpenTable and when I arrived the host said they didn’t have a reservation under my name. She assured me it wasn’t an issue and that they could seat us. We came in at 6pm on a Friday night and there was no wait (slight red flag). We were sat right away and were immediately given water and bread. Water was filtered and had a good taste (I am not a big fan of tap water). We ordered the campfire feast for two with the Zucchini as our appetizer. They were delish but a bit greasy. Hubby ordered the potato soup, salad and the 12 oz Ribeye. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and ribs with salad and mashed red skin potatoes. My two kiddos ordered Mac and cheese with rice and the sliders with fries. Hubby’s soup came out with his salad and my salad. We ate them and then the entrees came out after. It was strange that he got his soup before his meal if it was his side. When the food came, I was served a rack of ribs and potatoes and my kiddo got fries instead of rice. Why didn’t I send it back? Because I’m too scared someone will spit in my food. I’m just not that brave. Overall food was meh- large quantities but relatively flavorless. A clip of plankton eating holographic meatloaf came to mind. My potatoes were room temp and looked like they were just taken out of the plastic bag they microwaved them in. Ribs were dry and greasy and had no flavor despite being coated in BBQ sauce. For desert we had one kiddo with chocolate sauce and one without and hubby and I got the cookie. Kids ice cream came out about 20 mins before ours did so they were bouncing off the walls and ready to go before our desert came. When it finally came the ice cream was severely lacking cream- it looks like good vanilla bean ice cream but tastes like a cold foam. It’s hard to explain- I’m not sure how you can take the flavor out of all the food. Our bill was over $100 for two kids meals and a campfire feast with a Ribeye ($5 upcharge). Not worth the price imo

My dads birthday was Saturday and he decided on having his bday lunch here. We arrived around 2pm and we were a party of 8. The hostess greets us and tells us it would be a few minutes for her to set up the table. We wait and then she takes us back. Our server was already waiting at our table and we noticed that nothing had been done to them to accommodate our big group. The two tables were still separated down the middle and we were supposed to split up. (Four on each side) I tell him no that we would like to sit together. He says "okay" and so we actually help him move the tables together.. He takes our drink orders and and brings them out right away. We tell him we are ready to order and so he writes the orders all down.. Salmon with a loaded potato soup and green beans Grilled chicken breast w a potato soup and mashed potatoes Two orders of Tri tip steak with loaded baked potatos and french fries Two orders of pork chops with broccoli and green beans Two orders of a rib eye steak (one with rice and potatoes and the other was a salad and baked potato) Kids cheeseburger sliders. Kids meal comes with a scoop of ice cream! Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout! For being a big group, he made sure to always keep our drinks refilled and made sure we were doing okay. My sister n law actually found a long piece of hair deep into her salad. She told the server right away and he kindly brought us out a new one. Other then finding that long hair, the food was great. The cookie my Dad was given for his bday was SO good! Sign up for their rewards club as you can get yourself a free meal (valued up to $21 I believe) for your birthday! We spent about $150 but it was well worth it. The food is usually always good and the service was great as well. Three stars because seeing that hair was gross.

We first get to this location with no host for about a min. We’re greeted and the host says please hold she’s not sure if she has a server. We wait a min and we’re able to go sit, we ask for a highchair cause we have a 1 yr old and we’re brought a booster seat. After correcting the host we get the highchair. We get our bread which was great and order our drinks and order food everything is fine. We order the 2 for $68 meal with an appetizer, 2 meals and dessert. We get the potato skins and they were awful. You could’ve literally broke a tooth trying to eat these things. Attempted to just dig out the middle and it was 90% cheese. Sadly that was a waste. When the server brought the skins we asked for more bread and never got it. The steaks and sides were as we ordered but nothing to rave about. We were here for about an hour and seen our server twice. We never got a refill once and we both just ordered soda. So we were left with empty drinks 70% of our visit. That sucked but to top it off we ordered the carrot cake to go and get home and the piece of cake couldn’t even feed my 1 year old it was so small. If only I could get my $93 back. It was ridiculous. **The location was not busy at all either, our server had 3 tables which included us so I’m not sure why we received such awful service. She was nice the 2 times we did get to see her.

UPDATE: We returned on June 30, 2024 and EVERYTHING IMPROVED. Our reservation was honored at 1:00 pm Sunday and the free entree was honored under the Bogo coupon so a free $31.99 prime rib and everything in the restaurant was working well including the a/c. Our waitress was Kelsey H. And she was delightful, engaging, friendly and extremely efficient! The chef was Mark Mecklenburg and he must be a great chef because the meal was a perfect. 12 oz. Prime rib, cooked to order, great baked potato cooked perfectly and broccoli steamed to perfection! Whatever the management did they turned this whole place around and it’s time for you to try it again! Old review: My husband and I went to the Black Angus on Hampton in Mesa on July 13th 2023 at 4:45. There were a few people waiting at the bar and in the lobby after putting their name in. Most had reservations and were noticeably upset because the reservation time had come and gone. A large group came in and were seated with no regards to the 6 sets of guests waiting with reservations along with us without reservations. There were two young ladies in the position of hostess that were getting pressure from the people who had already waited well past their reservation time. The hostess repeated the manager sent home one of the servers thinking there would be only two large parties coming in. He obviously was wrong but the problem escalated when after we and others waited over an hour, another large group entered and walked right past the hostess and were seated. Not sure how this happened or how they knew they could walk right in but it left over 10 people waiting who now weee furious and began expressing their discontent with the manager. Their complaint was he irresponsibly sent home a server before 5:00 and then allowed two groups to be seated leaving small groups with reservations waiting in a very warm lobby. We decided since there were people who had reservations and were sitting there at least 20 minutes before we got there now waiting nearly 90 minutes, we would leave. We had not seen the manager and the hostess was taking a lot of heat from the lobby and bar guests. My husband called an Outback nearby and found they had no waiting. So as we were leaving people waiting asked where we were going. We said we were going to a nearby Outback. We had now waited 90 minutes trying to be understanding but seeing the situation was not being handled by the general manager well. Later, while at Outback we saw and talked to a couple of other people who had left Black Angus disgusted with the lack of positive and proactive leadership from the manager on duty. I understand there was a minor crisis caused from a lack of staff, a managerial mistake and a distressed hostess, but in the future we’ll be going to a different Black Angus. Once the manager realized there was a growing number of waiting guests with reservations from 4:30 on he should have called the server to return or communicated directly with the guests waiting. He did nothing. He left the angry guests take it out in the hostess. He could have calmed down the entire lobby and bar area of waiting guests by explaining the situation, taking responsibility and offering options. It seems like he thought he would make more money from two large parties than to seat 4 or 5 smaller parties. We will be aware of this if we decide to go there for dinner again and have a backup plan in case the...

I brought my parents in for Thanksgiving dinner. We had reservations at 6:30 they were running about 20 minutes behind, which was totally OK. I figured they would be since it was a holiday. My mother and I went to the bar and ordered a drink during the wait. There were 2 bartender staffed. Neither said anything to us for at least a minimum of 15 minutes. I worked in the food service industry, so I know they were overwhelmed. My issue was when the lady finally got to us, Her attitude was a 0/10. She was SO incredibly rude. Every time she had to even speak to us it was like the biggest inconvenience of her life. I was honestly taken back by how bad her attitude was and again I’m very accommodating with things running behind because I understand it was a holiday and I’ve worked food service. Once we got sat, our waitress did not service our table for again at least 15 minutes, again that’s OK. I understand she was very busy. The problem was, by the time she did come to get our drink order we had asked for bread she told us that she would bring it. We had to ask for it three more times and did not receive it. Meanwhile, the tables next to us we’re getting two loafs at a time. our waitress, continued to tell us that the bread was not done. Which was obviously a lie. Our entrees were delivered warm and it was really good. This is the only reason why I am even giving any of the stars above a one. My uncle who attended dinner with us had asked for bread and our waitress literally argued with him! No joke she literally bent down to his level and argued with him. I tried to explain to her Our frustration was seeing the tables next to us with a different server receive 2 loaves at a time while she told us that the bread was not ready. She immediately cut me off, dismissed me and told me that she had a 17 top. I tried to explain to her that I understand. Again, I’ve worked in the industry and if that was me serving I would have been pissed my coworker was taking dbl the bread and leaving none for my tables as I service a high top. However, she was extremely rude as well and would not hear it. Literally argued over me and wouldn’t hear it. I just pulled my card out at that point. Told her to get us boxes and check us out, I didn’t even want to wait for the bill. I was very understanding and to continue to receive the poor attitude service, I really didn’t have much more patience in me. Especially when you’re outright arguing with my elderly family. Although the food was good, the service was incredibly poor. I’m not even upset about wait times, ALL of staff has incredibly bad attitudes. I’m honestly still taken back. The poor service really dampened our experience. Despite the food being good, we will not be returning. Management needs to do a better job of supporting their staff and ensuring service...
