Five Guys was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell; Jerry and the couple's sons, Jim, Matt, Chad, and Ben, were the original "Five Guys."1 The Murrells had a fifth son, Tyler, two years later. Today, all five sons, the current "Five Guys", are involved: Matt and Jim travel the country visiting stores, Chad oversees training, Ben selects the franchisees, and Tyler runs the bakery.4] The first Five Guys was in Arlington's Westmont Shopping Center. Buns were baked in the same center by Brenner's Bakery. This location closed, in favor of another in Alexandria, at the intersection of King and North Beauregard Streets, which closed on September 21, 2013. More followed in Old Town Alexandria and Springfield, Virginia, making five by 2001. Their success encouraged the Murrells to franchise their concept the following year, engaging Fransmart, a franchise sales organization. Former Washington Redskinskicker Mark Moseley, who had gone to work for Fransmart after his football career, played a key role in Five Guys' expansion and went on to become the company's director of franchise development after it ended its business relationship with Fransmart.[10 In early 2003 the chain began franchising, opening the doors to rapid expansion which caught the attention of national restaurant trade organizations and the national press. The expansion started in Virginia and Maryland, and by the end of 2004, over 300 units were in development through the Northeast. Over the next few years the chain rapidly expanded across the entire United States and into Canada, reaching over 1,000 locations by 2012.[needs update] The first location outside North America opened in the United Kingdom in July 2013, in London on Long Acre in Covent Garden, one day before the opening of Shake Shack's first UK outlet just 300m away.[12] The second location was in Reading, Berkshire. The chain now has 27 restaurants open across the UK.[13] Five Guys also has locations in the Middle East and has continued to expand in Europe. In March 2017 a location opened at Disneyland Paris' Disney Village, about 25 miles east of the Five Guys located on the Champs-Élysées. In late 2017, Five Guys opened its first restaurants in Germany, one in Frankfurt and one in Essen; two additional locations are scheduled to open autumn 2018 in Berlin...
Read moreI do not understand peoples obsession with this place. I have been twice and it was two times too many. For what you pay for these burgers I would have expected something unique, or at least tastier than a typical burger. Except what I got was about a plain as a burger as I could imagine. It looks like the burger you'd get at a backyard BBQ cooked by a drunk relative that picked up the clearance ingredients from Walmart. It would have been more fitting if they handed it to me on a paper plate.
From the moment you walk in you can tell they are trying their hardest to convince you they make good burgers. The walls and windows are covered with sometimes 20 year old reviews saying the most bland of compliments. It would make sense that they would have to rely on some food blogger from Georgia's assessment 10 years ago saying the burgers are "pretty good" to really be able to put a sign on the wall with something positive. The staff was friendly and the somewhat loud poppy music playing gave it the feel of a trendier and fun burger place. After waiting ten minutes for the burger I was wholly disappointed by the size, presentation, and quality of the burger. It really felt like people were lining up to get ripped off. $9 for possibly the blandest burger I've had in a while is moronic. Couple that with an equally as disappointing milkshake and I left hungry, annoyed, and wishing that I had gone elsewhere.
Don't make my mistake, go elsewhere and stop letting people convince you Five Guys is a good...
Read moreHave NEVER written a review of ANY business... This took quite a bit to get me here.
This night, was celebrating and headed to indulge in the amazing burgers and fries from fuddruckers, turned out hours stated by google is wrong; subsequently spotted five guys "oh maybe they have great, maybe even better burgers (well $16 for a burger with little order of fries, yeah more expensive) ..asked to use the bathroom and "nope you have to place an order to use our bathrooms" ... Oh uhh, okay but can I jusy order and have it delayed until I'm back out? "No you have to make an order" ... Okay, I can do that but can you just delay it a couple minutes? (Mind you not a single customer is in here... I have over $1,1000 on me, I'm not a homeless guy wanting free restroom use!.(in my mechanics uniform.. And yes clean outfit... Regardless.. He was literally just short and ...moody? No smiling, no courtesy.. Just embarrassing even deal with regarding the privacy of using a restroom, let alone at an eatery. Finally. Picked up my food.. Literally. Again.. My demeanor was, may I have a small cup of water? Great, thank you. Appreciate it, etc the whole time... The guy says NOTHING but okay or yeah.. No thanks etc from him. Within 2 minutes he sends an employee to go check the restroom, like I'd be doing something nefarious (wasn't a...
