There’s something special about starting your day with a coffee run… unless that coffee run takes you through the customer service desert that is Black Rock. If you’re into getting treated like a mild inconvenience rather than, you know, a paying customer, this place is basically a five-star experience.
Rolled up to the drive-thru expecting a friendly face and maybe a “Good morning!” Instead, I was greeted with the kind of enthusiasm you’d expect from someone being forced to work at a place they hate. Eye contact? Optional. Smiles? Extinct. General human decency? Not on the menu.
After I placed my order (carefully, since I didn’t want to anger the Barista Overlords), I waited at the window while the staff exchanged what looked like inside jokes and side-eyes—none of which seemed related to actually making drinks or helping customers. When I finally received my coffee, it was handed to me like I had personally ruined their day by showing up. When I told the barista I asked for light ice and I was told if I give you light ice I will have to charge you more. 🤯
Look, the coffee itself? Still good. But the attitude? Rougher than a Monday without caffeine. If you’re into sassy indifference and the general vibe of “Why are you even here?”, this is your spot. Their cold brew (my preferred drink) is always amazing and tasty, but the employees at this location are why I gave it 5 stars... every morning I'm greeted by happy, smiling employees who always have something nice and positive to say. I joke about how I get my daily dose of happiness from the Black Rock drive-through, but it's TRUE! We need more love and kindness in the world, and I know I may be stretching it by writing this in a review about a coffee shop, but this Black Rock location is really doing its part by creating an environment where their employees recognize the value of not only quality customer service, but also the chain effect one positive interaction may have on a person's day (particularly mine!) Couldn't have had higher praise more for the young lady and her performance and her behavior her personality as well as her co-workers but she was of the utmost ultimate impressiveness. Truly an obvious multitasker with the drive-through headphones on able to answer my questions took my order and then gave me a terrific cup of coffee to walk away with.
