Schlotzsky's — Restaurant in Mesa

Never been here but came with my husband on a Friday after 5pm and was lucky to be there for the personal pizza $5 after 5pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays....that's a deal! Decent pizza plenty for 2 to share or 1 to enjoy with leftovers to take home! We split this as an appetizer not realizing how big it would be and we were expecting company to meet us so it was good to share for the table. I was told by my husband that their sandwiches were very good when he came years ago. We both ordered sandwiches that came with a side, two drinks, and I thought their sandwiches were good but it about $20 for each sandwich meal we ordered for ourselves after adding a fountain drink to go with our meals which we could have just stuck with pizza (even getting our own would have been more than enough and only $10 before adding drinks). The bill came to just over $50 and for a sandwich place this is just too much. I will say the sandwiches are huge and I couldn't finish mine even without the pizza we were snacking on while waiting for our guests. In the future, I will probably just stick to the pizza and go during the pizza deal time on the weekends. Place is clean service was friendly the tables sit high like pub tables and chairs aren't too comfy to sit in after a while but if you're really into sandwich shops I would recommend trying. We hadn't had Schlotzkys in years. I remember it being so good. I usually dont give bad reviews and honestly I feel bad but I am not happy with my experience at all. We dont usually use Grubhub but got a gift card and picked Schlotzskys for our dinner option. The order arrived quickly and the driver was kind, so nothing against Grubhub. Unfortunately when we opened our order things were missing and incorrect. We were missing our pickle spears, no Aujus for our French dip and my sons sandwich had mustard instead of mayo. We called the restaurant and a sweet younger employee answered the phone. I could tell she was young and a little nervous to be answering the phone. I was kind and told her what we were missing. She put us on hold to talk to her manager. After being on hold a few minutes she gets back on the phone and says that her manager said that there is nothing they could do. She said that we could drive to the restaurant and pick up the Aujus and pickle spears if we wanted. It bothers me that the manager couldn't get on the phone and take care of the situation. I worked in a restaurant for years and I understand how they work. I wasn't looking to get anything for free but maybe a better solution. My two star review comes from having poor management and a small portion of food for an $8 sandwich. Upon receiving my dinner, the first impression was that my bacon grilled cheese sandwich was half of the size of my girlfriend's. Then upon taking my first bite of my sandwich, I realized it had my least favorite food, avocado, on it. When reviewing their menu online, I don't recall anywhere where it said there was avocado. Upset at this point, I spoke to the manager. The manager, Kurt, offered no immediate solution. I then requested a new sandwich made with no avocado and different bread. When my replacement sandwich was brought out, it wasn't brought out by Kurt, another employee brought it out. I believe that it was a poor decision of Kurt's not to check to make sure I was satisfied with my reordered sandwich. Kurt did return a short time later and checked my satisfaction and offered 2 complimentary Cinnabons for my dinner date and myself. But that doesn't make up for his lack of resolution and making sure I was a happier customer after being dissatisfied. My review should be 1 star. Only one of the two soda fountains contained all choices of drinks. The other, only half of the drinks available.
