I had a pleasant experience at Cancun Grill. This restaurant checks off most of the boxes that any reasonable patron would have on their list.
I'll begin with the negatives because it's a short list. The average dish on the menu costs $18 which is a little more than what you'd pay at the average chain restaurant competitor. The food presentation is uninspiring. The portion sizes are satisfying but they don't match the slightly higher price of the average dish. Also, they have a full beer and liquor bar but only beers and tequila based drinks are discounted during happy hour. You'll pay full price for anything else at the bar, anytime of any day. Not everyone is into tequila.
I mentioned that the food is slightly pricier than at competing restaurants but this is offset by the generous amounts of chips and salsa that's brought to the table to snack on. The salsa is flavorful and fresh and the guacamole is even better. I was able to taste the freshness of everything I ate. I was even able to see the employees making the guacamole and tortillas in plain sight so I know it's made there today and not bought frozen from a store. Although the plates look unimaginative, the flavor was on point. The highlight of my experience at Cancun Grill was the service. I feel like I was greeted warmly and attended to by all staff that wasn't even assigned to my table. Whoever walked by asked and offered to get my next drink or to take my order. This treatment and attention to the customer by itself makes me a returning...
Read moreWe were a party of 3 who met up for lunch. Our waiter was Guillermo. We asked for the cola (Pepsi) and the taste was horrendous -- think petroleum. Guillermo seemed very inconvenienced when we asked to change our drinks to 7-Up (this wasn't much better, the taste was still there). When two of us suggested our friend avoid the fountain drinks, he rolled his eyes and sarcastically explained that it probably wasn't a good idea while motioning to us. Then, a dead moth fell from the vent above us into our burnt tortilla chips (we were seated in the back tables, near the emergency exit). We simply put them aside. Cue another eye roll from Guillermo before we could even tell him what happened. He aggressively took a cup of salsa and smashed it into the full bowl with the moth before taking it away. Then, totally not his fault, the food was stale (mostly the loaded tostones and nachos) so we left it aside. Once our friend took the tab and specified no tip, he came back to the group and asked everyone around, while showing the card and receipt, if we made a mistake by writing $0.00 in the appropriate tip line. We answered him 2 times, saying we paid the amount specified as total without a tip, and he kept asking out loud, embarassing us, seemingly demanding we tip him. We paid $45 for 1 stale appetizer, 1 side of "okay" queso, 3 foul drinks, and an attitude, aparently. Split that for $15 each, it's NOT worth it. To think he still wanted a...
Read moreHORRIBLE!!!! Don’t be fooled by the reviews! When I tell you that the only good thing were the chips, that should say enough and even those didn’t have salt! My Husband and I wanted to try this place due to the reviews. So many people rave about this place. They sat us down immediately and provided chips and salsa. We ordered water with lime, did not get the limes. We ordered the queso with onions and mushrooms as an appetizer. The worst queso we’ve ever had. It was greasy, a blob of cheese that was half melted and had no flavor!! We ordered the steak marinero and the chicken and shrimp fajitas. My husbands steak was soft but had no flavor. The shrimp it came with had no flavor and were rubbery. The rice and beans had no salt. My chicken and shrimp fajitas were terrible. The chicken had no flavor and was super overcooked. My shrimp were also rubbery. On top of all this, our server never came back to the table to check on us. He walked by our table multiple times, would stand around but never once came back to see if we were okay, if we needed more water or napkins. Horrible service. Horrible food. So bad that I’m currently in the line of Taco Bell because we couldn’t eat our food. I truly don’t understand where all of these good reviews came from and why it was so packed...
