Yesterday (11 Nov 2015) was my first visit to Chuy's. I had been wanting to try it for a while because I have heard nothing but good things. So I finally made an excuse to go out and have dinner with some friends.
The wait was not bad (30min for a table of 4 at 7:00 PM on a holiday). It was during that wait that things started to unravel.
While I was looking at the wall of t-shirts I caught one of the hostesses furiously picking her nose. I'm not talking about a quick flick to dislodge a nasal offender; no this was full on California Gold Rush level of nose mining. I'm an easy going guy who at times loves a good nasal excavation every now and then, but there is a time and a place.
So we finally get seated and order drinks. The drinks come and we make our orders. The food comes out in a timely manner and is great. I loved the hatch green chile sauce.
The server come around and myself and my friend order another round of drinks for ourselves. The server asked the girls if they wanted another round on their 3/4 full margaritas to which they very clearly declined with "no" spoken in a very clear English. Five minutes later she came back with a tray of 4 drinks and hands them out to everybody. Confused - the girls took them. Never being the types to turn down a drink if someone hands one to you they made peace with the fact that they were going to have another Margarita.
The server came around a few more times to see how we were doing, the girls were taking their time with the 2nd round of drinks they didn't order so the server asked if we were ready for our check. After getting the checks which were right for the most part I was shocked to see that the guac, which I ordered with my steak burrito was north of four dollars.
I've had my fair share of guac in my day and I will tell you that this guac was good, but it wasn't four dollars good..
We suck it up and pay our bills, not challenging the margaritas we didn't order, or the guac made from unobtanium avocados - because well - we ate/drank it and it was good.
The server comes back with our cards and bills for the tip, tells us to have a nice night and all that jazz and we smile and nod and thought that was the last of it. No - she comes back a couple more times wile the girls were still working on their margaritas, because dammit, we're not leaving half a damn margarita that we paid for but didn't order. It really felt like she was trying to push us out.
TL:DR - great tex mex food, sub par service and un-apologetic...

Went in during off hours on Thursday, Mar. 24th 2016 at 3:30. Only 2 or 3 other tables were seated. Hostess and server were indifferent. Nice enough, but clearly wanted to be someplace else. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Had never had salsa/chips like that: chips were light and crunchy, and the salsa was spicy, but not tomato-ee.
Drinks were bad. I bought two margaritas at 9.75 apiece and left without so much as a hint of a buzz. (And I hadn't eaten all day.) I ordered 1 "Father Agave" margarita and one "Grandma's Rockin Margarita". The Rockin Margarita is listed on the drink menu as having "extra Grand Marnier" in it. I'll be damned if I could see it or taste it. This is another instance of a chain restaurant reaping huge profits off of watered-down drinks.
I would go here for lunch with co-workers when I knew I wasn't going to drink, but would never go here again as part of a social evening out when I want a good, strong margarita. I will keep going to my favorite: El Toro. They make a Cadillac Margarita that will knock you on your ass. I go to the one in Bellbrook on 725 (ask for Luis or Mario and have them make your margarita), and I think there is an El Toro on 725 east of the Dayton Mall too, but have not been to that one, so can't vouch for it.
So, in a nutshell: drinks suck, but food is amazing.
(PS: Both my server and the hostess were at the front door on my way out, and neither so much as said "Goodbye to me". Brandon was his name, not sure what the hostesses name was, but if Chuy management is reading this, shouldn't be too hard to find out who she is by checking the work schedule for the date listed at the top of my review. Customer service is so important nowadays with all of the dining options available out there. That brush-off at the door on my way out made it just that more unlikely that I...
Read moreArrived around 6:15 ish. Place was busy but was able to be seated right away. Waitress was pretty good. Approached the table and got things going promptly. Food took a little while to get to the table. Wife’s fajitas were hot and sizzling so I thought “Hey, this is gonna be the bomb.” Wrong. The nachos I ordered were hot but barely had any toppings and was absolutely smothered in way to much cheese. Barely any beans at all. Looked like the beans were barely swiped on the nachos with a butter knife or something. It wasn’t even a real plate of nachos. It was like 10 huge chips with a weak portion of toppings. Totally disappointing. Didn’t even come with sour cream. That was extra and you couldn’t pull them apart from the mound of greasy cheese. Didn’t even finish them. I also ordered the mucho tacos, I believe. It’s a dish where you get 4 small, and I do mean small tacos with all the fixings. Looked good but the meat was cold like it sat in a window while all the other food was prepared. Waitress offered to get me more but I didn’t feel like waiting another 20+ mins for four tacos half the size of one you would get at Taco Bell. The wife seemed to enjoy her fajitas but complained this morning that they made her ill. Threw the leftovers away. Won’t be returning. Service was decent but the food, and portions suck. You shouldn’t pay over $40 for a meal anywhere and leave hungry and disappointed. Don’t follow the hype behind this place. The Dayton area needs more than just over rated food establishments. It’s sad that places that claim to have authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex style food are nothing more than glorified Taco Bell’s around here. Step your...
