What an underwhelming experience! Sophia’s has beautiful decor, very instagramable. However, that’s the ONLY thing it’s got going for it. Don’t let the perfectly curated esthetics fool you. This place has subpar service and terrible food.
My boyfriend made reservations here to celebrate my birthday 🥳 so I was excited to try it out. Little did either of us know the experience would be memorable, but not in a positive way
First, we opted to sit inside. The restaurant was empty. It looked like we had reserved it for the night. Soon we found out why.
Waiter asks us if we want still or sparklingly water. We ask for still, but apparently they have run out of still water, so he offers to bring us tap water instead. Pro tip to the waiter: If you’ve run out of something lead with that information 😉 Also, how do you run out of bottled water at a so-called high-end restaurant?
Second, we order oysters to start. Oops, wrong choice again! No oysters for us, they had run out. 😑
Alright, I need some alcohol pronto. So we ask for the most affordable bottle of Cabernet. The waiter literally brings us a $300+ bottle, shows it to us and is about to open it when he suddenly walks away from the table and returns 3 mins later with the cheapest, 19Crimes-looking bottle I have ever seen in my life (I wish I had taken a picture) and proceeds to inform is that he initially brought the wrong bottle. Deep breaths we opted out of the Cab after all and instead asked for a $200 bottle of Veuve Clicquot. After all it is my birthday and at this point in the night I’m still feeling hopeful.
I ordered the Octopus as my appetizer and the Cacio Pepe w/ “black truffle” pasta as my entree. The octopus was good, but it was cold and was nothing spectacular. The Cacio Pepe was bad. How bad? So bad I had one bite and left the plate untouched after that. The pasta was very thick, not al dente, the sauce had no flavor, the “black truffle” must have been fake because it lacked the usual aroma, texture and flavor.
My boyfriend had the spicy rigatoni, which was spicy but lacked any originality. The pasta was over cooked too.
The shrimp was tasteless, overcooked, and sitting on top of a gooey flavorless sauce. I ate half a shrimp. 😒
The waiter seemed oblivious to the fact that we did not touch any of our food. Remember when waiters used to be trained to spot unhappy customers? The good old times.
Desert was comped because of it being my Birthday. Thank god because I would have been extremely disappointed if I had ordered it myself. Took one bite and asked for the check.
Happy...
Read moreI want to preface with: Anyone is free to spend their money how they like. This place won't ever fool me again. I have been here only twice. The first time was good. 5/5. The truffle pasta was great for the price, the service was good, and we even got a sweet treat, period. THE SECOND AND LAST TIME: GARBAGE.
You could tell GREED got to the owner's head. The same truffle pasta, like 12 dollars MORE ... but tasted like WET TOWEL. This lobster thing we ate, barley any meat but it was okay. The serve hounding us DOWN when it came time to order but when it was for a napkin or more water... not one check in. YOU KNOW WHY? because a 20% tip is already included (which we didn't know ahead of time). SO why should they care? and the table they sat us in right in front of the bathrooms (to shove more people in). We of course didn't get a sweet treat this time, because the server didn't even ask... it's like they want people to get out of there so quickly, so you don't realize how much money and time you are spending. KEEP IN MIND THE RESTAURANT WASN'T EVEN FULL.
This place went from charming to crappy. The bathrooms weren't even clean... remember we had to sit in front of them.
At the end of the day yes, it is expensive because it's a touristy place but that doesn't mean you have to be a trap. As a local I was ready to make this place a go to for celebrations and special outings and budget for this place... but now they just want to squeeze out every penny out of anyone and not spend any of said pennies in becoming better for the community and traveling communities.
What a disgrace that greed can take away such beautiful things.
Go once for insta, go once to see for yourself... but if you have a better experience than me. Congratulations you either: have more money than me, so you are lying to yourself and don't care where your money goes. Someone paid for your food, or the restaurant paid you, and you are lying to us.
Don't let tourist traps and greedy businesspeople ruin Miami for us and those visiting's.
Do yourself a favor: Go to Publix buy Italian meats and cheese there, a 20-dollar wine, and BOOM! better Italian experience. Best part you get to pick where you eat too! (My tip: the beach or local park for a pretty view and better insta pictures.)
The restaurant is dark and barely any light to hide its terrible service, food,...
Read moreI’m unfortunately having to retract my very positive review from last friday, december 6th. I came in to dine (table of 4), as a quick and nice dinner alternative. I work in the industry (Design District restaurant) and not only do I recommend it to our very well known Caffe rooftop customers, but I’m also a Sofia’s customer. This time we all wanted some quick pasta and drinks. I usually go for the truffle pizza which is delicious (pricey but worth it), but this time 2 of us wanted to try the Caccio Peppe, which in the Menu said it included black truffle so it caught our eye. $42 for a pasta is expensive but since it came with the truffle we thought it was worth it. The waiter, whom I’ll leave the name out, was italian and described a dish of the day who nobody was interested on since we were ready to order. He did mention the dish of the day came with a nice seasonal white truffle which I said “yummy” to but proceeded to order 2 caccio peppes and another pasta type, besides our drinks. 2 out of the 4 people had to leave early and when my friend told me the total for the check I was surprised to know that we had 2 extra charges of $95 for white truffle. Mind you, they did serve our pasta and then came with the truffle but 1) the menu said it came with truffle so we all thought it was the truffle that came with it and 2) in no moment did they say this is extra and it is an additionao type of truffle. I called the next day and spoke to a very nice manager who then said another manager would call me in a few days since they wete busy. It has now been almost one week. They did give my friend (who paid) a call and left a voice note acknowledging but not giving a solution and today I finally called back the number to hear again the very nice manager say the same thing. Bottom line is, we were not informed of the extra charge and were expecting the Caccio Peppe with the truffle that it said on the menu and want a refund for the 2 extra $95 charges. I hope to hear back soon, and unfortunately a lot of my friends and customers already know about the story and have been weary of being “misunderstood” in the same way. I’m ok with paying for what I order as long as...
