I had heard good things about ViceVersa and the delicious off-menu burger they only serve on Mondays. I rarely go out for dinner on Monday nights, but that burger was tempting so made a reservation to finally sample it.
The restaurant itself is small with a dark ambiance which I enjoyed. Once seated, we were quickly greeted and the server took our drinks order. We settled for the muled spicy margarita and the Orange Wine Highball. The margarita was smooth and aromatic. The Orange High Ball, which is kind of a mezcal aperol sprits, was refreshing. I give the cocktails a 4.5 out of 5.
For the appetizer, we went for the tuna tartare. It was served deconstructed as opposed to how it is served in most places, round-shaped like a cake. I like their approach. In addition to that, the flavors were spot on, fresh and with a nice spiciness to it. My only complain here is that it was served by itself, with no bread or something similar. It was missing the crunchy element. If it had bread or something similar, I would have given it a solid 5, but without it, it comes down with 4 out 5.
For the main course, we had the well-awaited burger and the spicy pepperoni pizza.
The burger tasted so good, there was so much flavor in a single bite, but unfortunately it was well done, like really well done. It’s good to add that the sever didn’t ask how I would like my patty cooked when taking the order. If it wouldn’t be overcooked, it would be a 5-stars burger.
As for the pizza, I was not impressed. It looked good but it became soggy quick, perhaps because they add too much hot honey. You can’t eat the pizza with your hands because it folds and becomes super messy, it’s like eating a crepe with your hands. It’s not as easier with the utensils either as the dough is too chewy. My spicy pepperoni pizza with the hot honey reminded me of a similar pizza Miami Slice has, but the latter being much better, with stronger structure, keeping its crispiness for much longer.
All in all, I was really excited about Viceversa but it didn’t live it up to the hype or the fact they just made it to the Michelin guide recommended list. However, I’m willing to give it another try and see...
Read moreAttention to detail.
My partner and I visited this bar twice on our most recent vacation, and the words I kept coming back to were "attention to detail." From the decor, to the glassware, to the menu, every detail was thought out and contributed to our overall experience. We arrived for the last bit of happy hour last Monday night, originally intending to have a drink or two before dinner somewhere else.
The space is not large, but careful decoration and arrangement means that it doesn't feel crowded. We got seats at the bar, and watched several real experts at work. The cocktails are well-balanced and thoughtful. They make their own aperitivo, and it's great in every cocktail they put it in. When I went slightly off menu, our bartender asked several good questions about what I like to drink and what I was looking for, and even offered to make me a cocktail with an amaro aged in bourbon barrels that would compliment what I was ordering. I'll admit that it took me way too long to realize our bartender owned the place--it was only after someone called him by name that I put two and two together.
We decided to stay for dinner, after seeing a lot of really delicious options go to the patrons around us. The food was excellent and complimented all of our drink options very well. My date was dealing with an unfortunate cold, and our bartender, unprompted, made her a hot toddy to help her out. When I asked him to recommend something for my last round at the bar, he suggested the Vice Presidente, which ended up being my favorite drink of the night. It was the first thing I ordered when we returned to the bar later in our vacation.
The attention to detail at Vice Versa was amazing, and made it an excellent place to have a few drinks and a bite to eat. Nothing in the bar or on the menu feels out of place, and the hospitality of the staff and owner makes sure you won't feel out of...
Read moreViceVersa is recommended by the MICHELIN Guide and mentioned in 50 Best as one of the best bars in North America. I had to go whilst in Miami. A very small venue located in the lobby of The Elser Hotel Miami. I loved the dark wood and rich green walls enhanced with pops of colour from framed art which gave it a sultry moodiness. The bar was buzzing when I went. You can either book a table in advance online if you plan on eating or walk-in like I did. Bar counter seating is usually available for walk-ins and offers the full menu. I waited around twenty minutes before I got a seat. The bartender was lovely. I would definitely recommend trying one of the many cocktails. There is a lot of choice. If you are unsure what to have, let the bartender know your preferences like I did. She suggested the perfect cocktail for me. I had the 'PARTHENOPE' which was very refreshing with a slight hint of spice. I didn't want something with too much alcohol. I had to have a pizza which is highly recommended on the MICHELIN Guide and by others as one of the best in Miami. I went with the margherita. It was really good, a crispy, thin Neapolitan-style pizza. I couldn't finish it and took the rest to go. Nice cocktail, good pizza, loved the atmosphere and good service. My small negative was that the bar seating is quite tightly packed and everyone was ordering food and drinks, it was a bit of a struggle finding room for plates and glasses. Food comes out quickly once you order. Would...
