**UPDATE 3rd time was the charm 4 out of 5 Just wanted to update the stars and feedback for Metro. Upon my honest review the Manager reached out directly to get information. They provided me a gift card that I could use and drop in whenever and try them again. I wasn't really sure at first if I was going to try it but we did.
The experience we had during our visit this time was much more in line with all the other reviewers that enjoy Metro. We actually came on a Sunday during the busy church crowd rush. So this was definitely a time that the staff would be most stressed and rushing around. This wasn't intentional just happened to be out on a date morning with the wife.
We put in our name and were given an estimate and setup with the text for seating. After a few minutes we got a text asking if outside seating was okay. It was a nice day and they had the heat running and we were perfectly fine sitting out there. We were given drinks promptly even with the busy servers and staff the food was quick and exactly what we ordered.
I want to thank the Manager Rob for taking feedback and ownership when there is a bad experience. Many places dont care. Im not one to go out of my way to complain. The last place I complained about in Middletown was Steak and Shake. My key words were "get better staff or I dont see you being open for long". They closed their doors for good due to bad management. Anyway enough rant Thanks Rob for the incentive to try again. Will be back.
Original Review 2 Stars *** After two visits I sadly just donāt think this place is meant for me and the family . Let me start my saying I have worked and managed at a few restaurants I know how it is to be triple sat and how that effects service . This review is based off the staff having every possible chance to handle the workload .( there was no wait nor was there a solid flow of people being sat ) .
A few weeks back I stopped in and while wanting the chicken and waffles I was told after sitting down for 15 minutes to order the fryers were down . Oh well no biggie I found something else. The food was ok but the service and refills for coffee just didnāt happen . What I shook it off and tried again today. I wish I could say it was better .
We got in the building at about 9:05 am and the hostess (woman up front ) said to sit where we like . We found a booth and sat down . 15 minutes go by and nobody stops over . 3 different tables in that 15 minutes came in and got drinks and orders placed . Okay , maybe they didnāt see us . Wife tells hostess we havenāt had anyone stop over . We wait another 5 minutes and still nothing . Mind you other people were getting fast service . We donāt make scenes we just leave . As we left the hostess asked if anyone came which we said no and she apologized .
This place has generally good reviews . Not sure how twice the service was near non existent . Maybe in a year...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy experience started well. I called in to place an order to go and the staff was very friendly-even at the time of pick-up. I ordered a chicken tender sandwich among another meal, the same thing that I order every time. However, the bacon on my sandwich and in the other meal was not completely cooked/ it didn't seem well done. I called the restaurant back and they called a manager to the phone. I described my issue, to which they said no problem, they could take my name and address, and they would mail me something as compensation. I said that was not necessary, I just wanted the sandwich to be fixed properly. He took my name, and we agreed that they would fix another sandwich. I was on my way to work, and I explained that I could not immediately return, and I again, was told that it was no problem, that I could get it before the day was out. I return this evening, only to have the most disrespectful experience with Rob, the Owner/ Managing Partner. He asked what happened and who I spoke to. He makes a comment saying if I didn't like it, I just didn't like it- insinuating that I just didn't like the sandwich and that was the issue vs. owning the fact that the food was messed up. When informing him that I get the sandwich all of the time, he changed his wording to "If you weren't happy, you just weren't happy." Rob proceeds to ask the cook to do the remake. The sandwich is finished and while bagging it, he proceeds to say, "For future reference, we don't give away free food." (He told the cook that as well). Like I was next to the dumpster waiting for his scraps that he promised. Completely disregarding the fact that he didn't GIVE me ANYTHING, that I PAID for my sandwich that was UNSATISFACTORY and I left a tip, and his staff had the decency to make it right for a FREQUENT customer that has never had this issue before! As he continued with his disrespect, he gave little room for anybody else to speak, while trying to say that he wasn't referring to us, only his past experiences. He asked that I take the sandwich, but I left it with him. I was as disgusted as that bacon looked this morning. Well Rob, I hope that you take a lesson about decency and customer satisfaction from your staff and understand that if you don't want to "Get in the habit of people thinking that they are going to get free food." perhaps you should get out of the habit of serving food that seems to be undercooked. But your frequent customer that you wanted to treat as tonight's CHARITY CASE when you were WRONG, is done, and I will never recommend your establishment again. I will be spending the money that I WORKED HARD...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI get to travel through Delaware quite a bit, and I always enjoy coming here for breakfast. It's good food at a great price with fantastic service. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!
Metro is a chain/franchise. Most times, you know what you're getting. However, there are occasions where you can tell that the owner(s) of the place actually care enough to put forth a great product, and that's what sets this Metro Diner apart from others I've visited. While all places have staff turn-over, there are quite a few, friendly faces that I still see here. That includes the servers AND cooks. That bodes well for any place.
Their menu has something for everyone. There's always a new Yo Hala to try listed on the specials board. They have the standard fare, too. I like their breakfast pie which is just a giant omelette in a pan with a ton of cheese. However, I like to always try something new, and I've not yet been disappointed. I'm always in for breakfast, though, so I cannot comment on their burgers (but I'm going to change that). In fact, I think the cooks here are much better than the ones at other Metro Diners. The owner(s) chose the staff well.
Service is always great. One of those friendly faces I mentioned is Katy. She's always on top of everything, and my coffee cup is always full. She's great with the kids, too. The manager, Jason, even checks in to see how everything was.
For a three-person breakfast, you'll pay somewhere between $35 and $40 if you end up getting some specials like the Yo Hala. That's really not bad when you factor in the quality of the food. Their portions aren't small, either, so enjoy! I really do like their homefries -- crispy, diced potatoes which I get with onions and peppers. The place is never empty on the weekends for breakfast, so you might have to wait about 15 minutes or so for a table, but they have the check-in feature which can text you when the table is ready. Trust me, it's...
