How can I describe this restaurant in any other way than to say that it is utterly glorious?
The food that they serve here is phenomenal. That's the only way that I can put it. I felt like Garfield scarfing down my lasagna. The way Garfield describes lasagna, the feeling that he gets when he eats it, this is the feeling that I get from eating their Tuscan-style lasagna. After trying it twice, I think it's safe to say that this is my favorite lasagna that I have ever had, and I've had my fair share of lasagna, and Italian food, in general.
I think the pasta is great. The marinara sauce is super flavorful and has a wonderful consistency. The alfredo sauce is rich and creamy and is probably the tastiest alfredo sauce I've had, and the sides have been pretty darn good.
This evening I had the frito pasta appetizer, which is like a little loaf of spaghetti that is fried. But the last time I went, I had the lump crab risotto balls—although I don't know that it was actually risotto—but it looked that way, and it was so very delicious.
I also really enjoy the cozy environment and the way that everything is put together inside, and although my last experience was outside, the space was mocked up in a classy, but homey way. The servers were spectacular, and they really made me feel welcome, and they made great conversation while walking me through the different menu options.
And hats off to Chef Anthony. That guy really knows his stuff! His recipes are out of this world. I really feel lucky to have the job that I have to be able to travel around with good company, but I will say that being able to enjoy really, really good food when we're out for 10 or 12 hours a day working our butts off, and I get to invite my crew to a place that just absolutely delivers 1000% on an amazing Italian meal—that's a really good feeling!
I appreciate Lola and Giuseppe's Trattoria for doing such an incredible job of making me feel like I've just had the most spectacular Italian dinner I could possibly have, cooked by an incredible chef that clearly loves what he does, and with people that make me feel at home...That's just worth all the stars in my book right there.
So thank you for the incredible experience, the spectacular service, and for making my time out here in Ohio something that I will never...
Read moreI had a long, in-depth review typed up and ready to go, until I accidentally deleted the whole thing. So instead of spending all that time to rewrite it, I'm just going to sum up everything I said:
This is hands-down one of the best restaurants my wife and I have EVER been to, and we've been together eight years, and eaten at quite a few restaurants. It was about an hour round trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to make it again...that's something I wouldn't even say for some of the fancier restaurants we've been to.
Unlike a lot of eateries, the names in the restaurant title aren't just homages...Lola was actually there the day we went, and even though it was our first time here, from the looks of things, she's there just about every day (Giuseppe wasn't there because he recently had surgery, and was recovering). She came and talked to us, just as she did to pretty much every other table, and when we told her we were there for my wife's birthday, she absolutely insisted on buying my wife Limoncello for dessert, as well as a cannoli for the road.
Lola is an incredible host, and will talk your ear off about anything you want to know...she told the table next to use exactly how Giuseppe makes the Limoncello served at the restaurant, and was even describing how the restaurant makes money in a difficult industry. From the mouths of other people, this could come off as bragging, but with Lola, you can clearly tell its simply out of pride. And boy does she have every right to be proud of this place. The dishes aren't just great, they're flat-out memorable. Even something as simple as their bruschetta absolutely explodes with flavor
This is one of those rare places that transcend nationalities. Sure, the focus may be on Italian cuisine, but I wouldn't just recommend it to fans of Italian food, I'd recommend it to fans of food in general. This place is a crash course in exactly how a restaurant should treat their customers, and I honestly can't recommend it enough. I took my wife here because I knew she would love it, simply because of the food being served, but I ended up walking away loving it just as much. I wish I could give it a...
Read moreI was visiting Gahanna from out of town with my husband and had a hankering for Italian. Doing a quick google search for Italian restaurants in Gahanna, this came out on top. I'm all for quaint local family run restaurants, especially those offering old-world traditional foods. The soup and salad were excellent, but our main dishes and the service left much to be desired.
I ordered the Sicilian onion soup and Braciole, my husband ordered a small Giuseppe's salad and baked rigatoni. We had arrived a few minutes after the restaurant opened, but the waitress returned to say they were out of the Braciole (this early in the evening, really?) Considering the good reviews online, I thought I'd try something new and got the special of the day, clams, lobster and pasta in a garlic white wine butter sauce.
The onion soup was delicious, I almost wanted to order more, and my husband said the salad was great, especially the dressing. These two items are why the rating has 3 and not 2 stars. We were eager for the main dishes, but when they arrived they left much to be desired.
The sauce on the rigatoni was average (quite acidic for a bolognese) and the copious amount of cheese while baked, was simply melted, not golden or crispy. (It's hard for me to type this, but it actually had too much cheese on it.)
My dish was not good. The seafood was rubbery and overcooked, the pasta was full of sand from the seafood, and the sauce was thick like alfredo without much flavor. I expected the garlic white wine butter sauce to be flavorful and light.
I would have let the waitstaff know, but our waitress disappeared after delivering the food. Both my husband and I, and another couple next to us that came in at the same time we did, waited, and waited, and waited, and then waited some more after finishing our food.
When waitress finally arrived, she seemed angry when we said we didn't want boxes (we had a 2+ hour drive home), but at least processed our...
