I came into the Highland drive location last week and likely won’t be returning. It was my first time in so I took my time shopping around the whole store. After after a few minutes from when I walked in I had picked up a couple items and at that point the associate up front asked if she could start me a room. I said yes, she took my items, looked me up and down and then took them to a fitting room.
I wasn’t particularly done up that day so I didn’t take that personally. What did take me by surprise is as soon as I was done trying on and hanging my items, I opened the dressing room door to find another associate standing 3 feet from the door waiting for me. She smiled and asked me if anything worked out to which I responded no, she took the items from me right then and I left.
I’ve worked the retail side of things for over 5 years both in management and as an associate so I am well aware of shoplifting red flags. Because of this I actively avoid grabbing any small items until I’m nearly ready to check out, taking too long in the fitting room and things of this nature that could be perceived as shoplifting.
The sales associates didn’t see a first time customer eagerly looking for a dress for a special occasion, they saw a person of color with a reusable tote scouting the store to steal something she couldn’t afford. I quite liked one of the dresses I had picked but after being carefully monitored by the associates there I spent my...
Read moreSHOPPERS BEWARE! CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!!! TIFFANY (OWNER)! I have spent thousands of dollars at your store. I do enjoy it, and your staff are mostly lovely. However, I was recently almost (thanks to my wherewithal) overcharged by nearly $1200!!! WHY don’t you use modern accounting?! It is so ridiculous to make your staff HANDWRITE these LONG ITEM NUMBERS then MANUALLY ADD them on a calculator! it should actually be ILLEGAL. Even once I got home, I recalculated the numbers and noticed they were still off by almost $300!!! What other stores do this?! None that I know of. It's terrible bookkeeping! I cannot tell what the price is of anything I bought- I have to personally check with the numbers on my own items...it's just insane!! But more to the point- how many times have I overpaid you because of this archaic system you're using? And making ONE employee write all these items (I often purchase several bags worth...) when there are other people waiting to check-out only puts MORE PRESSURE on your staff to get through this manual math process. Please modernize your bookkeeping. A receipt with a small item description would be appreciated, and allowing a computer to add totals would be...
Read moreI've visited this store several times in the past few months, both selling clothes on consignment and making purchases. Unfortunately, despite giving the store multiple chances I’ve consistently felt a stark difference in the treatment I receive compared to wealthier customers, particularly from the owner. It seems clear that unless you’re able to buy multiple items, you’re not afforded the same level of attention, friendly conversation and warmth.
In contrast, the staff at the Parleys location have always been welcoming and go out of their way to make every customer feel valued. Given my experiences at the Highland location, I’m unlikely to return to either store, as I’ve observed a concerning lack of respect and kindness from both employees and the owner towards myself and others who clearly aren’t wealthy.
For anyone looking to shop sustainably while still finding quality clothes, I highly recommend driving to Park City to thrift instead. While it may be a longer drive, the thrift stores there have consistently treated me well, offer amazing selections, and feature...
