If you’re craving a true taste of Tamil Nadu right here in the Bay Area, Dhindigul Thalappakatti in Milpitas never disappoints. My family and I consider it our go-to comfort spot, and every visit reminds us why.
What keeps us coming back • Mutton Milagu Soup – Easily the best pepper mutton soup in town. The broth is bold and warming, packed with black-pepper heat that clears your sinuses in the most satisfying way, while the tender mutton pieces add just the right richness. It’s the perfect starter, especially on foggy South Bay evenings. • Authentic Biryanis – The hallmark of Thalappakatti is its legendary biryani, and the Milpitas outpost lives up to the name. Each grain of short Seeraga Samba rice is fragrant and distinct, infused with whole spices and slow-cooked meat. Whether you order the classic chicken, goat, or their aromatic vegetarian version, the balance of spice and flavor is unmistakably Dhindigul style—no shortcuts, no excessive grease, just pure authenticity. • Consistency & Service – Busy weekend dinners, but the kitchen’s quality control is impressive. Servers greet regulars with genuine warmth, happily explaining spice levels or customizing combos when we bring guests new to South Indian cuisine. Orders arrive hot and promptly, even at peak hours. • Ambience – The décor is simple yet inviting: warm wood tones, comfortable booths, and Tamil hits playing softly in the background. It feels casual enough for a quick biryani fix yet welcoming for family gatherings. • Value – Portions are generous, prices are fair (especially considering Bay Area rents!).
Dhindigul Thalappakatti has managed to bottle up the essence of home-style Tamil cooking and bring it thousands of miles to Milpitas. For authentic biryani, soul-soothing soup, and warm hospitality, it’s simply unbeatable. Highly...

I visited Dindigul Thalappakatti for the first time today, encouraged by strong recommendations from friends and positive online reviews. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what I had expected.
The food overall did not meet the standard in terms of quality or taste. The Chicken Suka felt odd and completely out of place as an appetizer — if it isn’t intended as a starter, it should be served with roti or rice to make sense. The Chicken Biryani was disappointing — either the meat wasn’t fresh or had been overcooked, possibly from the previous day. The flavor didn’t come close to the standards we’re used to, even compared to places in the Bay Area.
A friend dining with me, who visits regularly and is a big fan of the Kola Biryani, was also left disappointed with the food today. The Paratha wasn’t properly cooked, and there seemed to be no thought put into the serving sequence — appetizers, main course, and dessert were all jumbled together. Even the Mutton and Chicken Suka dishes didn’t feel like appetizers at all; only the Chicken 65 stood out as decent.
To make things worse, the service felt disorganized — dishes arrived at random, and at times we were served curry with no rice or bread to go with it.
Most concerning of all, I experienced health issues shortly after dining, including vomiting and diarrhea, which raises serious concerns about food safety and hygiene.
This was a very disappointing and unfortunate first experience. I genuinely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and reviews both kitchen practices and overall...
Read moreBoth food and service are bad! We went in, the guy behind the counter did not even care. We had to wait until a waiter spotted us and offered us a table (Restaurant was 1/4th full). We were asked to scan the QR code and order. We did so. After 5 mins of sitting idle, the waiter came and asked for order. We told him we ordered online. We ordered two veg and two nonveg dishes. Veg dishes were ok but the nonveg was horrible. They brought the appetizers and main course at the same time on the table. I asked them about that and the waiter blamed online ordering and said he could not do anything!
Prawn sukka - first off, it was shrimp (small shrimp from Costco type), not prawn. Parts of the content on the plate was very warm while the rest was luke warm. This happens if you don’t know how to microwave your food! The food definitely was not fresh.
Mutton biriyani - I guess it should be called cinnamon biriyani. It is a shame that this is being sold as Thalappakatti biriyani. It was not even warm hence the meat was dry and hard. I have a hunch that it was also not properly microwaved.
While in the middle of our meal, I asked for extra cup of raita, which the waiter was going to get but never got it. I reminded the waiter after 15 mins and he showed his passive aggressiveness by slamming the small cup of raita on the table.
I paid for the food upfront, online and hence gave the tip upfront. I would never...
