Ordered (for take-out) the standard cheese steak and an order of onion rings. TIP: Parking can be a nightmare in Dinkytown so allow for time to find a spot.

The good: Excellent bread, even after zapping it a bit to warm up the ingredients. Onion rings appear to be beer-battered which made them tasty, but I thought they were a tad greasy (which is to be expected with such thick batter) but my wife had no such issues. The cheese steak is certainly worth it as far as size and quantity of meat goes. While the order of rings was not plentiful, the size of most of the rings makes up for that.

The not-so-good: This first comment is a general one as we have experienced this with other cheese steak sandwiches in the Twin Cities. The steak is chopped up so much that it's closer to lose hamburger than thin slices of steak. For reference, if you ever had a Cousins' Sub's cheese steak, you know what I'm talkin' about. I like cheese steaks that feature ultra-thin slices.

Both my wife and I thought the meat was significantly under-seasoned. I also found it dry but she didn't share that opinion. Lastly, I have no idea why the cheese steaks establishments in the Twin Cities melt the cheese on the roll, then layer the cheese and veggies over the roll, then put on the steak. I get that maybe it's because the sandwich comes open face (although who knows why). Th Cousins' Sub's ones feature the meat cooked on the flattop, then covered with any veggies, and the cheese is melted over it all. The entire insides are then inserted into the roll. But Tono does the same thing as you do so maybe it is a regional thing?. When you melt the cheese into the bread, it doesn't allow the cheese and meat to "marry" their flavors.

Finally, staff were friendly and amiable. By the way, I chose the wrong night to visit since it was the same night and time of day as the LGBTQ protesters were on the opposite corner protesting the Dave Chappelle show at the Varsity. Hopefully, on a non-concert night, parking is easier to find.
