5.0* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 5* Value: 5* Service: 5*
03/30/2024 Knowing our affinity to unique restaurants, especially those that have been featured on TV specials, our sister-in-law mentioned this restaurant to us when we arrived in Minneapolis for our latest visit to our son's house. I immediately entered it in my 'Want to Go' list - and since our son and his fiancé also enjoy unique food, we found ourselves making reservations for dinner later that weekend.
I have to admit a bit of apprehension when we first walked in, as it appeared to be a very high-end restaurant...and you know what that means: $$$$. Once the menus were distributed and I got my first look at the pricing, my stress levels dissipated. In the end, I gave Value a 5* rating (a rarity for me). While the portions were a little small (I'd say reasonable...I had room for dessert and didn't leave feeling stuffed), the pricing was also what I would consider reasonable - especially given the quality of the food.
So, let's get into the good stuff...the delicious food! I wasn't sure that we could eat appetizers in addition to our main courses, but others at the table thought better, so we started with an order of Onion Rings (see pictures) and Bacon Onion Dip (see picture). Both of them were delicious and are highly recommended! The dip was so creamy, yet light at the same time and the onion rings were some of the best I've had - golden brown appearance, they bit off cleanly with the rest of the ring remaining intact and a great ratio of batter to onion.
For our main courses, I ordered the Beef Rib Toastie (see picture) and others ordered the Steak Sandwich (see picture), Asian Hangover (see picture), Braised Beef Rib (see picture) and Crispy Chicken (see picture). All of them had great reviews from our wonderful server, Peyton - and all are highly recommended. If you follow my reviews, you know that we usually all order different things at our table and share samples - so I can tell you firsthand that all of them were delicious! The desserts all looked wonderful also, but we resisted - so that will have to be the subject of a future review...

Read moreThis is my second trip to George & The Dragon... We went for Mother's Day Brunch (it was my very picky family's 1st time) and couldn't be more pleased with the fare. Our menu consisted of the cinnamon sugar donuts (these are basically enlarged Tom Thumb donuts-- Very tasty but nothing 'over the top'), the Beef Rib Benedict, Egg Scramble Special (smoked salmon, cream cheese, and fresh dill mixed with egg), the Asian Hangover, and a pancake (dad HAD to try on the side)...
Everything was tremendous... I previously ate the Asian Hangover and wanted to try something new so opted for the Beef Benedict- the meat was very tender, well flavored, and mixed perfectly with the egg yoke- I would have appreciated slightly more Bearnaise sauce but, didn't 'ruin' the dish....
Mom and Sister had the smoked salmon egg scramble- these two NEVER become excited over food-- they won't stop talking about how incredible it was! Very light eggs paired with melted cream cheese, ample smoked salmon, and just enough dill... I loved the bite I was able to steal... Unfortunately, the potatoes are more like mini french fries-- VERY TASTY but, offer unnecessary grease to a dish that should be complimented with something equally as fresh and light...
My dad opted for the Asian Hangover (per my prodding), he too was astounded at its flavor and quality... Really, this meal has succulent pork that's coated in Asian 5 spice- the jasmine rice perfectly accompanies the meat and garlic green beans, as it's able to absorb and preserve that wonderful seasoning...
4 stars solely because the music playing was loud and rather obnoxious for a Sunday Brunch... Otherwise, the food is sensational! -- I will continue to sample the menu however, for a first timer-- indulge in the Asian Hangover-- It has really solidified itself as an absolute staple within the Minneapolis...
Read moreWe were looking for a double-date spot that no one in our group had been to. We wanted a place that was highly rated but that wasn't too formal. George and the Dragon was the perfect spot.
Our group started with two appetizers - Pretzel Bread & Battered Snap Peas. The pretzel bread was cooked to perfection and the homemade butter was a nice touch. For the Battered Snap Peas, the aioli was pretty standard but we loved the batter (similar to onion rings) on the snap peas. We'd order both of these appetizers again.
Our group tried four different entrees. We ordered the Dragon Burger because it felt like the safest option, but to our surprise, it was our least favorite of the four entrees. It wasn't a bad burger, but the rest of the food just stood out more. And for the record, the "homemade chips" that come with it are French Fries. Next was the Chicken Milanese. We thought it had too much lemon flavor and didn't expect the chicken to be so thin, but we enjoyed it overall. The next two entrees, though, were fantastic. We had Today's Curry. I don't remember what the exact ingredients were, but it included chicken, a red sauce, and jasmine rice. The flavor was delicious. Steak Au Poivre was the last entree we ordered. The peppercorn and brandy cream sauce were a perfect compliment to the tender filet mignon. The mashed potatoes were good as well.
Since there were four people in our group, we finished off with a serving of homemade chocolate chip cookies (four cookies are in a serving). Our batch was a little harder than we prefer but had good flavor.
Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and would love to visit again to try other menu items. It's easy to miss this restaurant given its location, but it's worth your...
