We visited Hope Breakfast Bar and placed a simple request when ordering the steak sandwich: that the onions, cream cheese, and steak sauce be placed on the side. This was due to my son being on the autism spectrum—he prefers specific textures and doesn’t like his food mixed a certain way.
When the food arrived, the entire sandwich had been deconstructed and each component separated onto individual plates, along with a comment from staff that while it was allowed “today,” special requests like this aren’t accommodated on weekends because they’re too busy.
That statement, in itself, was disappointing and discriminatory. Accommodations like this aren't extravagant—they're basic and often necessary, especially for those with sensory sensitivities. To say your restaurant is “too busy” to be inclusive on weekends suggests a lack of commitment to serving all customers equitably.
If there’s a policy against special requests during peak times, it should be clearly posted—not shared as a surprise disclaimer after someone has already ordered and paid.
This experience left a sour taste, and I hope Hope Breakfast Bar reconsiders its approach to customer service and...
Read moreI had been to the St. Paul location the last time I worked in the cities, and decided to try the Minneapolis spot. We made a reservation, just in case, and came in this past Sunday for breakfast. They seated us immediately, by the front window. I was a little hesitant at first because it had been negative temps outside but the vent was right in front of the window and I was plenty warm.
My husband ordered his usual cold brew, and the Breakfast Sandwich. The cold brew was good--smooth and dark, just the way he likes it. The Breakfast Sandwich was decent, except the bagel was hard. He ate half of it, and then finished the rest without the bread. Honestly, the dish was good without it but you're paying for bread that you're not eating. I got a Banana Bread Latté and the Cottage Bruschetta Toast with two eggs on the side. Both of my orders were absolutely wonderful! The flavors all complemented each other seamlessly. I thought I would want a hot dish for such a cold day, but the bruschetta was perfect! Our server (Nora?) was fantastic! She was so busy but made sure to check in on us regularly. We never felt forgotten, no matter how many...
Read moreVery disappointed, my daughters have had great experiences at St. Louis Park location and where excited to take me here for Fathers Day.
First the positives. We started with drinks and the pickled pretzel. The pretzel was very good and was a hit. My wife had the breakfast tostada and that was very good.
Then we waited 15 minutes to order despite not being busy. The rest of the meal was extremely poor. My daughter had chicken and waffles and there was no way the chicken was fried it was soggy and tasted like it came out of a TV dinner. She also asked for a side gravy which came in a very small container and was a $5 up charge. The waffle was blah and had a very firm texture. I think Air fried chicken and an ego would have been better. I had the stuffed poblano. Which tasted like a big ball of cheese. On a soggy tortilla shell. I paid extra for the carnitas which was an extremely small portion which matched the amount of the hash browns. Again this was a very bad meal and for the amount of quality brunch places in Twin Cities my advice is to look elsewhere. Food was mediocre and service was...
