Masa and Agave - A Once-Loved Spot, Now a Huge Disappointment
Masa and Agave used to be a place we raved about to everyone, but after our last few visits, it's clear they've lost their touch, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning. The decline in service, quality, and consistency is impossible to ignore.
First, they’ve completely scrapped their late-night happy hour—despite still having some mention of it on their socials. Not only that, but the DJ that used to liven up the vibe is gone, and the music selection now is all over the place. It's just not the same atmosphere we once loved.
The service was downright awful. We had to wait forever to even be greeted and seated, and the restaurant was mostly empty. The waitress took an incredibly long time to take our order, and even longer for the drinks to arrive. The margaritas, which many of us ordered, were okay, but nothing special. They used to be one of the best so not sure what happened there. By the time our food arrived, it was good, at least, but it couldn’t make up for the slow and inattentive service.
What really sealed the deal was the lack of professionalism from the staff. The waitress was scattered and was doing everything except checking on us. She didn’t even acknowledge when two other people joined our table, taking even longer to assist them. When we asked for the bill, it took forever, and the waitress wasn’t even helpful in splitting it, which made the whole experience even more frustrating.
The manager was no better—arrogant and uninterested in addressing any of the issues. No apology, no attempt to make things right, and certainly no recognition for the birthday celebration and the whole reason of why we went there. In the end, we ended up paying a hefty gratuity for terrible service.
On top of all that, the hours listed on their website and Google My Business are completely inaccurate. We’ve shown up multiple times, only to find they’ve closed early or stopped serving. It’s incredibly inconsistent, and it’s clear they’re not concerned with keeping things running smoothly or being open.
It’s truly unfortunate because we used to love this place, but after three bad experiences in a row, we can confidently say that Masa and Agave no longer has our business. If you're thinking of going, don’t bother. You’ll waste your time and end up with subpar service in an empty restaurant. There are better spots to spend your...
Read moreVisiting my family & friends from NYC, we wanted to have a fun girls night, came in Saturday night unaware of the Dia De Los Muertos event. First, Ella at the front door was such a sweetheart and is the reason we decided to buy tickets. $45 dollars for food that does not reflect the menu but was old, cold, tasted like cafeteria food and has been sitting out felt like a total waste of money. But nonetheless we’d hoped the drinks would make up for it. TERRIBLE experience with Alex at the bar. There was NO olive juice in the EXTRA DIRTY martini. Straight Vodka for my mother who is clearly older than she could barely sip. The rest of us ordered spicy margaritas. We watched him make the original margaritas and thought it surely wasn’t ours & was probably someone esle’s because they were missing the peppers and not spicy at all and he had the nerve to be seemingly annoyed when we at minimum asked for a tahin rim (hence, SPICY) ..and then ended up giving us stale glasses where the tahin was too hard to even be tasted off the glass. The tamarind mezcal we ordered 2nd was missing tamarind altogether & tasted like straight reposado, terrible. If you have a bad attitude, the least you could do is make us the drinks we ordered and not be rude about it. Thankfully he was more concerned with wanting to go chat with his friends at a table and we had the pleasure of meeting the other bartender, Samantha. She was AMAZING! She offered to fix our drinks and reassured us that it was no problem because we felt so bad complaining. She emphasized truly wanting us to enjoy our drinks and not force it, and is the reason we even ordered anything else. We ultimately ended up leaving much earlier than intended to go somewhere else since we didn’t want to continue to time our bar rounds on when Alex was not there. Based on his service, I’m not inclined to return unless absolutely necessary. 3 stars for atmosphere, Ella,...
Read moreI visited Masa & Agave Cantina in Minneapolis on a Saturday night and had one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever encountered. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, the level of service was shockingly poor and completely unacceptable.
We arrived at 10:20 PM and were seated by 10:25 PM. Instead of receiving menus or being acknowledged, we were stalled until 10:45 PM—only to be told that the last call for food was at 10:30 PM. This directly contradicted what was stated on their menu, which clearly notes that the full food menu is available until 11 PM.
What made this an even worse experience was the unfriendly and inattentive staff. Our waitress completely ignored us while checking in on every other table around us—including one that arrived after we did and was served food before we were even spoken to. We didn’t even receive a glass of water, let alone a greeting or any form of communication.
After sitting there for 30 minutes with absolutely no service, we decided to leave. It was clear we were not a priority to the staff, which made for an extremely disrespectful and frustrating customer experience.
If you’re looking for quality service in downtown Minneapolis, I suggest looking elsewhere. This visit to Masa & Agave was a complete letdown—ignored by staff, poor customer service, and zero professionalism. Definitely not...
