I have never reviewed a hotel but I absolutely cannot leave without doing one for this property. I'm a Hilton pro. Former Diamond honors for multiple years but lately Mariott has been more of the speed I'm used to so I let my Honors status go and as one last thank you to Hilton booked what had to be a sure thing. The Marquette Curio collection in downtown Minneapolis. A sure thing? For the low low price of all of my points leftover + $470 I have stayed at nicer Hampton inns. The property itself is beautiful. The outside, the lobby, the access to the mall and the skyway...all deceptively well advertised. But here's the rub. All of that changes when you get checked in and to your room. I'm laying on what feels like an inch and a half of plywood as a write this absolutely kicking myself
Wife and son and I are here for my birthday and a long weekend. Picked a spot on the map and away we went. Even sprung for the upgraded corner room high floor view. Our disappointment is immeasurable.
This hotel has no sundre. No little shop or corner where you get get missing toiletries, a bottled adult beverage or a late night snack. Instead, there is an entire option on the elevator labeled "C" for concessions. The audacity to label an entire floor "concessions" for a small, non air-conditioned hallway with 2 EXTREMELY overpriced vending machines that wants 250 for a nature valley bar with a 10% transaction fee for using a credit card. And keep in mind, the lack of cool air is definitely true for the storage of any 3.75 pop tart or 2.50 single tampon. (Also in the machine.] It wouldn't be as bad if there were literally anywhere to get a bottle of water or candy bar but this place is surrounded by businesses and is a ghost town after 5 and on the weekend.
The temperature of the room is impossible. It feels like I'm a candy bar in that vending machine right now and it's set to 68° last night, I set it to 65 and woke up on the base camp of Everest. I dare not change the temperature anyways because the glow that radiates from the full 6.4 inch display lights the entire room for what feels like 5 minutes minimum before going back to sleep. That along with the alarm clock that you can't unplug or turn off will keep you in some sort of led light therapy all night long.
The toilet seat doesn't stay up. I mean what the heck...that seems like a pretty basic requirement to be able to stand and urinate without holding the seat with one hand.
The shower is an escape room puzzle. There are two nobs to turn, one for temperature and one to spin until the whole thing comes off the dial I guess. That was the most useful feature because the desired purpose of regulating pressure seemed fruitless. The shower head was either a firehose or a drooling baby. Regardless, the soap dispensers (if they have soap) are made to look like a premium blend but I'm pretty sure it was Dawn dish detergent. Also, you'll need every towel in the room to dry the puddles that form from broken seals and poorly designed door/splash guard mechanisms.
The TV remote doesn't work 75% of the times you press a button and the streaming setup for live TV was laggy and unwatchable.
The bed is hard as a rock.
One bathrobe in the whole room feels like a weird choice for a room with 2 adults in it.
The Joliett Room - good looking spot. We had a not so good experience. Birthday drinks and deserts for the 3 of us. As a gift, wife reserved a bay at the Top Golf Swing Suite in the back room. First impression was awesome. Wrong. The clubs are beat to heck and balls aren't better, the sensor was so bad that I spent close to half of the hour i paid for trying to get it to read the shots. For some reason, the system asks if you shoot right or left, but the bag you are given is missing clubs and had like 3 left handed 6 irons and no wedge just a mess to try to play a round with.
There's more but I've run out of characters.
Overall... so disappointed. Do yourself a favour. Do not stay here. Spend less money almost anywhere else....
Read moreThe location of this hotel is awesome. We came to town for the Vikings game. It was about a 15 minute walk to the stadium.
Let’s move on to the app. I kept getting text messages reminding me that I could check in through the app and repeated messages for a little more I could upgrade our room. Because we knew it was supposed to rain and I wasn’t feeling great, I knew we would be spending more time in our room than originally planned so I decided to try to upgrade. The app said I would be notified at the hotel if I got the upgrade. Once we were close to the hotel, I went to do the check in through the app and it told me I needed to go to the front desk. I thought that was ironic because before that, I felt like the app was trying to force me to not use the front desk for check in. I was actually getting annoyed because I feel like the human interaction at check in sets the whole tone for your stay. I was not wrong. I would say check in was adequate… I did not get the warm, over the top, super friendly check in, but I did get professional service.
I am not sure the room was a true upgrade or if I would have been better off staying in the room I originally booked. Our “upgrade” was right next to the elevators. 4 elevators that ding continuously and for some reason, people feel like they need to yell when talking to each other while waiting to get on or kids needing to scream when they get off. Also the cleaning staff’s storage rooms were on each side of our door so plenty of banging on the wall when supplies are being replenished. We were on the 10th floor so not quite high enough for the great city views, but high enough for an adequate view.
The room was very large with the bedroom separate from the living area. There was a table with 4 chairs, a couch, an occasional chair, a desk and 2 ottoman’s. Sadly, all the furniture was very uncomfortable. The heat/fan for the living room sits right behind the couch. It had a pretty loud fan so if it was running, my husband couldn’t hear the tv. The heat was one of the problems we had. The heater for the living area worked if you set the thermostat at 78 or so. If you set it lower, it wouldn’t come on at all. We would let it not work when we watched tv. But then I would get too cold so we would have to crank the heat up.The heat in the bedroom worked fine.
Next, the bathroom. We were scared every time we flushed the toilet. Was this going to be the time we needed to call for maintenance? The water would keep coming up higher and higher and just when you think it’s going to overflow, it would slowly chug its way back down with just barely enough umph to take the toilet paper with it.
As for the shower, eh. It was adequate. Definitely not the massive water pressure I read in a different review. It was more than a trickle, but not by a lot.
The bed was mostly comfortable and I really liked the pillows and comforter. Overall, the room was clean as were the common areas. There were a few areas in the room that could use a little paint and maybe a little extra elbow grease to clean up.
Lastly, I was confused about how breakfast worked. I ended up booking with breakfast and hoped for the best. I wish I wouldn’t have. It is a buffet style with the usual scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, chicken apple sausage, blueberry pancakes all in warmers, there are pastries, fresh fruits, toast, bagels, salmon, etc. It sounds like it should be delicious, but it’s adequate. I felt it was overpriced for what it was.
Maybe the last statement sums up my entire experience. By the time the room, parking and breakfast were added up, I was closer to paying a thousand dollars for a 2 night stay. I don’t have a problem paying that if I feel I am getting my money’s worth. Since we were at a higher end hotel maybe my expectations were too high or maybe in the end, the hotel was...
Read moreWay to expensive. The guy staff way to stuck up. The female staff seemed to be way more welcoming. No pool. No microwave, and not very clear on communicating the room options and prices. Ohh and have to pay 30 dollars a night for parking. I parked on street and my car got towed, which resulted in an extra $200.00 . Will NEVER go again.
Okay so what I am learning about this hotel is that they will only treat u as good as the amount of money you spend with them. If u stay at this hotel though and don't spend $500.00 at least than don't have high expectations on the customer service or any type of service at all. And if u don't fit into the high class profile than expect to be treated with less dignity, and to be judged. Idk why this place has made it a point to make me and my family feel like we did something wrong when we DID Absolutely NOTHING WRONG, except pay what we were told we would have to pay when we checked in. It is NOT our fault that there hotel front desk staff were unable to state or be clear about the added charges they tried giving us. Even in our room in the digital room directory under our room charges statement, it stated what we were under the impression we were getting charged. As well as on our receipt when we checked out. However, the front desk was asking for $300.00 more dollars than what the statement on the directory said, and than what are receipt stated. So im not sure if they are upset because we payed what we had agreed to pay from the beginning and because we didnt agree to pay the extra $300.00 they tried hitting us up for. But this place has been very unprofessional and has treated us very poorly, and now keeps trying to find things to charge us with, by even making things up. And now has resulted in them closing our honors rewards account. I have been staying at a handful of there hotels for 2 months now as a PAYING customer, paying for upgrades when available, spending my money on at there establishments on food and drinks, and rooms and this is the result. And it seems to be because we made a mistake to stay at this higher end hotel, and dont fit there expectations of being classy enough? The only thing this hotel offered that was better than there lower class hotels was the breakfast that we payed for. Other than that there rooms are small and no where near worth the price they want you to pay, and dont even compare to like the embassy suits-which i do recommend and do appreciate the way they treat and conduct there business.. In response to there comment on my review. I did do my research, i was fully aware there is not a pool. I believe that is something that takes away from a hotel so i stated in my review so others are fully aware. Has nothing to do with the fact that i researched about it before my stay. I had also researched that the staff and customer service was good, but that i have found to be very very untrue and only is as good as the hundreds a customer is willing to hand out to these people. I left that hotel and didn't complain only defended myself and refused to pay money that they asked for that wasn't even on the receipt at the end of our stay. I was respectful and do not deserve the way they have treated my partner and myself. Worst experience ever at a hotel. Very very very very disappointed. Don't believe that they want you to leave with a good experience unless u pay hundreds to be...
