The middle aged black woman that smokes cigarettes working the morning of April 2, 2025 around 1 AM was TERRIBLE. Horrible customer service. Luckily I was able to speak to her supervisor to get things sorted out.
To preface, I reserved my little sister (who is 18) a room here last minute because I didn’t want her driving home in the middle of the night in terrible road conditions. Prior to her showing up, I spoke to a Hyatt Regency representative on the phone to ensure that the minimum age requirement to check in was 18 and not 21. It was 18 so we went ahead and put a card on file to hold the reservation under my sister’s name.
Fast forward, my little sister shows up to the hotel and gives me a call. I’m put on speaker as she speaks to this miserable lady at the front desk. She immediately takes my sister’s ID, looks at it and says “you’re NOT EVEN 18, you cannot stay here”. I overheard it over and said out loud “She is 18”. The woman went back and forth with me over the phone about how my sister isn’t 18 which is NOT TRUE. She then proceeded to tell me “WELL we can’t book you anyways because the minimum age requirement to check in is 21 not 18.” I told her I spoke to a representative earlier and they said the minimum age requirement was 18 and that it would be perfectly fine. She then proceeded to “call security” and ask them what the age requirement is. First of all, if you work FRONT DESK, why are you calling security to figure out what the age requirement is? That is something you should have figured out working in your position. I tell her to cancel my reservation if that’s the case & tell her I don’t want to be charged for anything. She continued with the attitude “IF nobody checks in there obviously won’t be a charge to your card”. Fast forward, after making several calls I speak with the woman’s supervisor and he tells me that the minimum age IS 18 and the reason why my sister was denied check in was because the card I put on file did not match the reservation name. Okay, cool. Except we were told that she was TURNED AWAY because she was “under 21”. The woman NEVER asked for a credit card with the reservation name on it. It was NEVER brought up to us that this was the reason why she was turned away. She either LIED to her supervisor about the entire situation or somebody was trying to do damage control.
From the moment my sister walked up to that front desk she was absolutely hell bent on her not getting a room because she was young. She had an insane attitude and obviously needs a lesson in hospitality. She’s lucky I don’t file an ageist...
Read moreI thought I was being a responsible traveler. I prepaid my room on Expedia, even called Hyatt Place Downtown earlier in the day to confirm a late check-in. They reassured me, “Don’t worry, sir, your room is prepaid, you’ll be fine.” Famous last words. Fast-forward to 1:20 AM. After a long day of flights and delays, I drag myself from the airport to the hotel… only to be told, “Sorry, we’re sold out.” Sold out? But I literally paid you already. Apparently, my “guaranteed” room was double-sold, and my only option was to be “Lifted” to a sister property 40 minutes away. Not comparable. Not downtown. Not where I needed to be. At 1:30 in the morning, this isn’t just inconvenient - it’s unacceptable. Here’s the kicker: had Hyatt bothered to tell me before I arrived, I could’ve saved myself two hours of running around - gone directly to that other property or found something else. But no, I had to first get to Hyatt, be told my room vanished, and then scramble to find an alternative. And because I arrived technically on the “next day,” none of the booking platforms would let me check in same-night. Expedia, Hotels.com - all showing tomorrow’s check-in. I was basically stranded downtown at 2 AM with no hotel. Imagine someone older, handicapped, or not tech-savvy in this same spot - that’s not just stressful, that’s dangerous. Thankfully, Tru Hilton Downtown saved the night. The lady on the phone there was shocked Hyatt would behave this way and kindly found me a room. Honestly, I should’ve just booked Hilton to begin with. GO HILTON!!! When I asked to speak with Hyatt management that night, the only person “available” was poor Zach, the front desk guy running the whole hotel almost by himself with just another front desk person. The actual manager (Amber Przyborski) was, I assume, fast asleep enjoying a peaceful night - unlike me. She did call the next day to apologize, but couldn’t explain how Hyatt happily takes money for a prepaid, non-cancelable room and still double-sells it. Fraudulent? Sure feels like it. I hope their upper management is looking into this situation. Bottom line: If you value peace of mind, beware. Hyatt Place Downtown left me stranded at 2 AM, meeting at 7:40 the next morning, scrambling like a college kid during finals. Hilton, on the other hand, stepped up when Hyatt failed. So from now on...
Read moreFirst of all, I've been to this hotel four times, and each time it gets worse. I'll start by saying that my reservation was made through Expedia. It was a huge problem at check-in because the receptionist isn't very knowledgeable, and when I spoke to her boss, it got worse because she wanted to double-charge me the money they take for any inconvenience. Plus, parking gets more expensive every day because they charge you for every entry and exit, which is terrible since it's under construction and it was quite overwhelming to park my truck. We always stay at this hotel because my children and their friends, who came with us this time, love to play basketball, and having a court available is great. But this court is getting more neglected, dirty, and hotter every day (we asked for the air conditioning to be turned on, and the manager said no, because it could affect other guests. Which guests? That area is the loneliest and most dangerous in the entire hotel). When we got to the room and wanted to take a shower, it turned out the tub started to flood, and we had to wait almost 40 minutes before the others could shower. The tub was full of mold and rusty things. It was obvious they haven't given it the necessary maintenance. In the end, they fixed it. Breakfast is not included, and going to the buffet was the most unpleasant and expensive thing I've ever paid for, since it was a simple continental breakfast, which is included in any hotel, but here I paid a lot. The fact that they have no security in the gym, and no elevators makes it the most unsafe place there is. At checkout, the lady who checked us out wanted to charge me for the extra night I had booked and already paid for through Expedia. She said it wasn't paid for, and I showed her all the receipts Expedia had sent me. I was there for over an hour until it was resolved. But she still charged me for parking, until my husband told her that was also paid for and showed her the receipts. In short, it was an unpleasant stay, and although my children like it there because of the basketball field, I will never book at this...
