I took my friend out for lunch at Monte Carlo because I have always loved this restruant. We arrived at our res time and were promptly seated on the lovely patio by the friendly hostess. We perused the menu and made our choices. We waited for a server to place our drink order. After a 20 minute wait, I got up and asked the host if she knew which server was assigned in our table. She asked the server that appeared through the entrance with cocktails. After she served the drinks on her tray, she came right over and took our drink order. I summoned the server with the pitcher of water requesting some. Our drinks arrived 15 minutes later...too long to wait. I didn't want to complain because I was celebrating my friends birthday. We ordered wings for a starter. Another long wait for those. We both started munching as we were very hungry. When our server (sweet Olivia) came back to check on us I asked if there were dips for the very dry wing rub. She said they had blue cheese & ranch, which one would you like. Both please! I stopped after 2 so I would have room for fish & Chips. Dips came too late. I'll stop with the details. Olivia was really nice and I was pretty sure the long waits between the drinks & food wasn't her fault, She did say she would comp the $8.00 Guiness that my guest ordered, because it was too long of a wait and that she would send over a manager. The Host came to hear our thoughts and offered a comp dessert. We declined. It would have been a good gesture to just send one or two home with us. My guest Never complains...EVER!!! But he agreed the timing was way off. He pointed out that we were there for 2 1/2 hours. Just very dissapointed I spent $120 for lunch with lass than par service. I realized looking at my bill later that evening, that Olivia had NOT taking off the price of the beer. I didn't feel so bad about giving her less than a 20% tip. That was my experience at The famous...

My wife and I went for our May 9th anniversary dinner. I have never been before, so I was excited to check out the place. We placed our drink order and it took awhile for them to bring a couple waters and a Coke. When she brought our drinks we knew it was going to be a long wait for everything. So we ordered an appetizer at the same time as our main course. 30 minutes later they brought out our chicken wings to the table next to us how came in 20 minutes after us. So the. We waited another 30 minutes when our wings came. It was only then when the server addressed the chicken wings went to the wrong table. Hearing the next table over smashing chicken wings and the fact the server not once came and topped off our drink, not once while we waited. It really ruined the entire mood. Almost to the point we almost got up to find another place to eat in the North Loop maybe JD Hoyt’s, I’d have to make a reservation at this point. Then our chicken wings showed up when our main corse shows up at the table, something I was tying to avoid. By ordering the app to come before the main corse. During that whole time the server still didn’t come and top off our beverage. My wife asked the server if she could get a refill on her water. The server took my water and poured it into my wife’s glass and just walked away. We just looked at each other, like did that just happen. We go to various steak houses and dinner spots around the Metro area. We have never had that worse of service. That was the cherry on top at the point. I just said to myself I will never come back here again. The food was fine but after the vibe is what did it for us. I maybe have tipped $2.00 and as afterthought o felt I should have left...

I have been going to Monte Carlo since I was a child. I remember meeting my grandpa there as a young child. It was always a "destination" spot for my family, a "treat" to go to the Monte Carlo. As an adult, that tradition has continued, my girlfriend and I meet there once a month and always have a good time. Recently however, we had a really bad experience. We visited during the lunch hour. When we arrived there were about 6 open tables. The hostess told us that there were no open tables in the dining room, clearly there were. After we waited there for 5 minutes, with no one else that came for a table I told her "you have plenty of open tables, and no one waiting for them, please seat us." She sat us finally but only after I got a little snippy with the host. It was the strangest thing. Having been a hostess I know that both the servers and the restaurant don't want to keep their patrons waiting when there is a table!! When we sat down, our waitress was rude. She didn't smile once, didn't welcome us, it was like she was doing us a favor. This is not how I remember the Monte Carlo. My mom ordered a side salad and it literally was just lettuce. No croutons, no tomato, nothing...just lettuce. My chicken wings, as always were quite tasty but with all the dining options downtown we were really disappointed. We've had more good times there than bad, so I will go back, but I hope someone at the Monte Carlo reads this review and remembers that there are A LOT Of dining options and perhaps make their patrons feels special, and throw some toppings on...

Very good and fancy place! I ordered the sampling platter. It had fried chicken, shrimp (served cold, with lemon), calamari, green beans, and potato salad. Fried chicken: good level of crispiness. Almost slightly sweet rub? Maybe some cinnamon. But then other classic spices that comprised most of the flavor. Chicken was moist. Shrimp: I’m not used to shrimp being served cold but it was good! High quality shrimp. Bigger. I squeezed lemon on them. Deveined and stuff. Calamari: you could literally make out the shape of the whole little squids they fried! Little guys. Crispy fried breading. I hardly ever eat calamari so I have nothing to compare it to, but the texture was unlike other food I’ve eaten before. The meat was not “grained” really. It was more like a dense clay that you bit into. I enjoyed it. Green beans: best part of the entire platter in my opinion. They didn’t have a bright fresh taste but I think that’s just because they were fried. They were served in an oil that had garlic. High notes. Medium taste. Savory with some zest. Reminds me of Asian cuisine. Potato salad: great! Not memorable though. My friend ordered the walleye. He wanted it “plain Jane” and that’s what he got! He liked it. It came with a basic salad which I ate. Came with oil drizzle I think. The service was spectacular, which surprised me, as I’m just not used to going to restaurants where the waiters actually care about you lol. I was with a friend and got there at rush hour, and there was seating at the bar area. You get what you pay for with this place!

Monte Carlo is a pleasant surprise! I’ve walked by it a few times and never thought anything of the regular rectangular brick building with its brightly lit “Bar Food” sign, we visited on the evening of 12/30, checked in with the host and told there was a 20 minute wait. Fair enough for a busy Friday night, eventually 2 spots opened up at the bar and why not order drinks while waiting? We chatted with the lady enjoying her dinner, as it turns out she was the bartender’s mother- she gave us a run down of what to order and even a sample of the Beijing wings. We were hooked! Of course after we were seated at our table we ordered the sample platter which included the Beijing wings, fries (ask for the Beijing seasoning), shrimp cocktail, potato salad, green beans. I would say this is one of the better sample platters I’ve had. I am definitely team Beijing wings, they come out hot and full of so many flavors- I couldn’t identify all of them but would love to go back to see what other spice notes I am able to pick up next time. The rest of the platter was good. The Caesar salad was okay. The restaurant over all had a nice flair to it with the full bar, oldies classic vibe to the staff uniform. It’s a mix of casual and elegant. Edits made: call for reservations!

A favorite place since I was a young adult, and now my daughter and I like to go together. Last night disappointed us because while we were waiting for our server (who was great) to complete our checkout process, a manager approached our table and told us there was a reservation expected in 20 minutes and that we would need to get going soon. WOW! Included is an image of our leftovers bag that was on the table when we were approached, while an EMPTY table sat across from us. No one was ever seated there prior to our departure. We were the only Black patrons in either of the crowded dining rooms. To be fair, I took opportunity to share my disappointment with the manager who was the same gentleman who was so offensively rude. Of course he denied our experience (not cool) and left it at that. Beyond disappointing. Fully documented by an image…where is the lie? Minneapolis, Minnesota has a long way to go and is why it will continue to first be associated with George Floyd, death and injustice. I unfortunately will not be going back. I will spread the word and spend my money where it is better appreciated and not be told to “get out” even before the $$ for the check is finished being collected. WOW! Not ok. 👎🏾👎🏾
