Penn Station East Coast Subs — Restaurant in Mint Hill

It usually takes me a couple of good experiences and a couple of poor experiences before I post a review so it’s time to post a review. Yesterday was my the third time going to Penn station in MH, and for the third time, something was wrong. First online order took nearly 40 minutes because somehow it was missed in their ordering system. Stuff happens, mistakes happen, so that’s for forgivable, but sitting in person an additional 25 minutes after learning of issue w/no one in any hurry to resolve the issue, was less forgivable. It didn’t seem like there was anyone in charge.

The second time they forgot our fries and then I had to wait for fresh fries. At least they were fresh, so I still didn’t negatively review them. Still, no one seemed particularly in charge, no apologies offered.

Yesterday was my third and final time because not only did they forget the fries again (had to ask for them) but they also got my sandwich wrong, loading it with what seemed like extra tomatoes (I’m allergic) so I chose no tomatoes and not having any bacon at all on the club. We came here as a group of 6 on a Saturday at 8:20ish pm. The place had two people who looked like employees sitting at the tables. Right away I noticed the grill was very dirty and 3-4 employees stood around and didn't care. The overall cleanliness of the place is lacking. Floors were dirty, tables needed to be wiped, the kitchen/prep area had Halloween spiderweb hanging in it which made me wonder, how are they able to wipe and clean things with it in the way? The refrigerators were very dirty and looked like they have never been cleaned on the outside, so is it the same inside? I didn't use the bathroom but my kids said it was dirty (for this reason I went to Publix for the restroom). The food came out and didn't look appetizing at all. We ordered Reuben and it didn't taste like it at all. My sister in law had a Philly wrap and right after dinner felt very sick. I'm feeling unwell the next morning. I don't recommend this place. It's dirty and the food is not good at all. I recommend you go across the street to Jersey Mike's or Jimmy John's instead for a clean, healthy...

Although I like the subs here, they still have a lot of things to work out. First and foremost, they continue to give me a club sandwich with only meat and cheese and exclude the remaining toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.. I’ve called about this issue once after it happened twice and they were kind enough to offer a free sub the next time I came in. In that regard, they have great customer care as they are always eager to rectify any mistakes made. Unfortunately, I’ve gone back in and they’ve made the same mistake again and again. It’s frustrating to pay for a sub and not even get everything that comes on it. Additionally, when placing a to go order they seem very flustered and disorganized. I heard one gentleman complain about having to take an order when being handed the phone. The main reason I’m giving them two stars is because I think they’re still figuring it out and I’d say they’re hit or miss.
