Ono Hawaiian BBQ — Restaurant in Modesto

I had the BBQ Mix Plate with all Mac. The meat portions were definitely on the smaller side. Chicken was a bit dry. They made a mistake on my side choice so when I went to correct it the portion they gave me of Mac was pretty big(4 scoops). Not sure if they compensated for the mistake with extra of it or if that’s the standard serving size.

The service was great, the cashier was doing her best and felt a bit flustered when her card system slowed down and then crashed. She handled the situation swiftly and professionally, restarted it and apologized to the few people waiting.

I saw one other person come in with a wrong order correction, but it seems like the kitchen staff was the one making the mistakes today.

All in all if you compare to L&L, L&L is definitely better, but Ono will do if that’s all that’s near you. I always leave L&L with meat leftovers, today at Ono I didn’t have any, just Mac & veggies. Taste wise L&L chicken is a bit better too. Price wise there’s not much difference. My husband and I went here for lunch today. It was the worst! The dining room was DISGUSTING plus they had the outdoor dining tables and chairs laying on the floor all over the restaurant (I don't know the reason why they brought them indoors, but why have them blocking all of the indoor tables and making the place look even worse? Have some pride in where you work and clean the place up!). The food was just as disgusting as the dining room was. We got the chicken katsu and mixed bbq. Yuck! The chicken katsu wasn't cooked all the way through (chicken should not be pink) and the mixed bbq had no flavor. The macaroni salad that came with it should actually be called a mayonnaise salad, as it tasted like you were just eating spoonfuls of mayo. I will say that the plain white rice that comes with the meal was delicious. However, we found long black hairs in our food!! We were so grossed out we dumped our food and left. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. CAME DURING MY LUNCH BREAK AND NEVER RECEIVED MY FOOD. Waited well passed 30 minutes, was never told my food would take extra time or anything, watched the ONE person taking care of both drive thru and counter orders while their cooks chit chatted and TALKED ON THEIR CELLPHONES while cooking. Finally gave up and asked for a refund, the girl who tried to help us let out an "Oh Fu-" and had to ask two other people to do a refund. To add insult to injury a couple who arrived at least 15 minutes after my order had been "taken" (I'm not even sure it was or if it was even passed to the cooks) got their food while I was asking for a refund. Extremely disappointed. The drink area was a mess, the soda machine was empty of almost all its drinks, the sauce dispenser was obviously broken, and when opening the lid was found to be bone dry with left over sauce smeared all over the counter and left to dry.
