Never have I ever been asked to leave an establishment because I had “hit the 90 minute allowed time to be at a table”. About 20 minutes after receiving food, our waitress stopped attending to us. We had tried to look for her as our coffee had run low. About 10 minutes later we assumed the manager or possibly owner was coming by to ask us how our service was. Instead he leaned in so other guests could not over hear him say “you have been here 90 minutes and that is all we allow to occupy a table. I am sorry but I need to ask you to leave.” After being quite shocked and mentioning we had not finished our meal and actually wanted to order more items, he continued to tell me I could do so at the counter but needed to leave the table. There was no wait at this time and 30% open tables so I am not sure the business need in asking us to leave but i left feeling discriminated against as no one else was asked to leave who had been there far longer than us. The staff was staring at us while the manager/ owner was having this not so discrete conversation with us. As we paid for our food and left, the cashier rushed me to pay and practically threw my card at me as she took the next guest and watched me scramble to the side to put away my wallet.
To the manager or owner, whomever made the choice to not so discreetly ask us to leave; all I can say is I hope you are never treated with such disrespect. Shame on you for doing that to long time frequent customers. We won’t be back. Patrons beware. There is by the way no sign or disclaimer that says there is a 90 minute limit. I did check. Elder guests who were enjoying time with their family were not asked to leave. My only conclusion is age discrimination.
Also maybe say “can you please wrap up as we are busy” and not “you need to leave”. Such poor poor...
Read moreThere are reviews here about the great food and I will get to that but let me say what else I noticed that says a lot about the restaurant/cafe. Cleanliness, Organization, Cooperation. The glass doors as you walk in, fingerprint free. I have seen a gentleman who I believe is probably one of the owners clean the glass entryway himself. To me it says a lot when everyone cooperates to keep things running well for customers and each other. I saw a waitress clearing two plates off a table, then being asked something by the customer and a “busgirl” (?) walk by and gently grab the plates to ease the waitress’s load while she answered. The tables do not have gloppy ketchup bottles or half filled anything. I personally don’t think they’re overpriced and I’m frugal. You get good food, good service and care for a fair price. I grocery shop, I know. I ordered a patty melt medium rare and got it medium rare. Onions were sliced thinly not in big chunks. Ranch dressing is homemade. The waitress was superb. It felt to me that everyone took to heart to treat the customers as they would like to be treated. A comfortable place to go. First of all the staff and management work incredibly well together as an optimize team. The food is excellent and fresh with a great variety and you never leave hungry. Whether it’s breakfast or lunch, you won’t go wrong by going to Maple House. Frank, the owner is usually working right with the team either at the food counter or the hostess area, but like a good leader he works hard and everyone follows. Today we were there having a blend of breakfast and lunch and I have to give a stand out compliment to Abby who works the hostess register along with the waitresses and cooks to get everything assembled for the customers. She was all energy like most of the staff getting everything organized, which was obvious to us sitting at the lunch counter instead of a table today. Right after it slowed a bit at the waitress receiving area she was right back to the front register managing the customers as they were exiting. It’s great seeing a team working together while giving tremendous value to families of Frankfort and Mokena and new Lennox.
