We decided to go to The Brown fig for our date. We were excited to try it after reading all the positive reviews. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly hostess who said it would be a 30 minute wait. Ok, no problem, itās a Friday night and we expected to wait. After 30 mins we were seated and waited for our server. They were busy and did have a large party seated next to us (they already had drinks/cocktails). The server for our section was going around to all his tables, took an order for a dessert & served the dessert, took an order from another table & refilled their drinks, took 2nd order of cocktails from the large table, then took their food order, also helped another server deliver food to a table. During this time my husband made eye contact with him several times. He never once acknowledged us or said anything to us. After another 30 min wait he finally came over to get our drink order (which was just water) and we placed our food order. 30 minutes sitting there to order water is UNACCEPTABLE. He could have at least acknowledged us and said he will be with us shortly. The food came out about 35-40 mins, which is also fine as I expected a wait on the food due to how busy they were. The food was ok nothing spectacular. It might have tasted better if we were not so aggravated by this point. We tried the lemon cake based on recommendation. It tasted like a Little Debbie cake. It wasnāt bad, just nothing to rave about. Definitely not worth the $7.50 I paid for such a small piece of cake. The over all atmosphere and decor was really nice. The best part of our experience there was the hostess. She was extremely nice and apologetic about the wait for a table. She is the only reason Iām giving this place any stars. Unfortunately, I donāt think we will be going back. UPDATE: My original 2 star review was apparently deleted. (Not by me, weird) š¤ so Iām...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were excited to see The Brown Fig come to town and our first two experiences were great. We had been previously told that they donāt accept reservations (another very popular restaurant in our area also does not so that wasnāt super odd to us) We attempted to go there on Valentineās Day this year and my husband checked their Facebook page to determine if they were doing anything differently and only found the menu for the evening. There were several messages asking if they take reservations with no response. We headed out early to try to get a table. When we parked we saw the line that went from the door to the street and hoped for the best. As we got nearer to the foot we could hear the host asking if they āhad reservationsā to the group ahead of us⦠wait, what?? Everyone near us in line also had been discussing how they donāt take reservations so we were all confused⦠we waited until our turn to speak to the host who told us it would be āa long time for a table without reservationsā. We explained how weād been told they donāt take reservations and he replied-ā itās all done through Facebook and sometimes you get one and sometimes you donātā š³ Thatās no way to run a business. Either take them or donāt- if youāre going to take them- do it properly. If you donāt know how to run reservations properly then let a service handle that for you. (Open Table and Resy are great options) Itās so sad that things went the way they did as this was our favorite spot to eat. The people around us in line felt the same. There are other situations similar to ours on here and Yelp so it wasnāt even an isolated incident⦠we ended up at San Andres and had a wonderful evening with great service and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreChef Draeger has done it again at The Brown Fig in Monroe, GA. This time Draeger is going Greek!
Our table had his Wednesday special, which was a baked Blue Crab stuffed Chilean Sea Bass, served over a bed of wild rice and sauteed green beans, cooked to perfection and plated for the King of England. The entre reminded me of his other mouth watering award-winning signature dishes that he has been known to serve thoughout his professional career. Our table also shared the fried cheese with crustini -which was lit on fire at our table, the grilled shrimp kabobs and the baked zouchinne, topped with cheese. Both apps were beautiful and pleasing to the senses.
For desert we had the chocolate mouse and the Baklava, which took me back to my childhood at the annual festivle at the Greek Orthadox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta.
The restaraunt is very classy with an upbeat vibe and I suggest dressing up since the other patrons are all very dashing and glamourous, including the owner who was buzzing about, checking on all of her guests. The service and drinks from the bar were also outstanding.
Well done everyone! Can't wait to return...
