CARS — Restaurant in Montclair

First time at CARS Sandwiched & Shakes. Truthfully it was because the Pizza place was closed. I’m not much of a bread or sandwich eater, so my options were limited besides I also can’t fathom putting things like, Mac & cheese bites, chicken fingers or mozzarella sticks on a sandwich. For me, this a places I would go when it’s late and nothing else is available, which was the case here. I ordered the Mac & Cheese bites & an order of chicken fingers (simple). My friend ordered the Big Fat Reptar, it had cheesesteak, Mac & cheese bites, jalapeño, chicken fingers & buffalo ranch sauce; I just can’t eat like that, it’s funny what you can eat when you are in your 20’s, but at this point in my life any sandwich that has the words “big fat” in it is a step away from a heart attack or stroke; so I had to pass on that. The restaurant was small, it’s not a sit down spot, you basically order your food & keep it moving. Honestly for process food it was okay, the Mac & cheese bites were good, but after 1, it was too much for me, however I would order it again. I actually preferred my chicken fingers because they were hot & crunchy, as were the Mac & cheese bites as well. Overall, CARS served the purpose, I was extremely hungry after leaving the Montclair Jazz Festival, they were nearby, fast, opened for business and satisfied my hunger; what more could...

Car’s Sandwiches is our go-to spot in Montclair & honestly, it never misses! Best burger place by far!! We’ve tried a bunch of burgers from the menu, but the Car Signature Burger is hands down my favorite, perfectly cooked always, and somehow still craveable even after you’re full. Their milkshakes are next level too. We usually order online, and by the time we get there, the food’s already waiting. It’s fast without sacrificing quality and the staff here makes the experience even better. They’re consistently kind, attentive, and always get the little details right, like the extra instructions in the hand note section. Whether we’re adjusting an order or adding something last-minute, they’re super helpful and fast. It’s the kind of place where you genuinely feel like your order matters and you can rely on the fast service. We usually take our food to go, but the times we’ve eaten inside, it’s been just as great. The waffle fries with honey mustard…underrated, and don’t sleep on the desserts either trust me. Car’s has become more than just a food stop—it’s part of our routine whenever we’re in Montclair. It’s rare to find a place that’s this consistent, fast, and genuinely enjoyable to interact with....

Food is good when you can get it but every time I get treated like crap by the staff. I never leave reviews like this but somethings deserve it. Got home from work and my roomie says he ordered cars I say cool I'll call and put an order in can you grab it, called my other friend who I was gonna eat with got his order and called cars. They were out of what he wanted, no big deal. I said I'd call back once I got the order. No problem. When I tried to call back I was put on hold and hung up on twice, then just sat on hold. Process was 20 min to get in touch with them and no one ever answered. Will be eating elsewhere tonight and probably won't return to cars.

I'm a Rutgers alum so the fat sandwiches are great, but in new Brunswick they are made in 5 mins from scratch. It takes the staff here 30 mins minimum to make a sandwich. It has annoyed me everytime. I will see 10 tickets hanging and No one gives a crap. They move at their pace. I work in the industry, I get it you can get slammed. The thing is if you slack when you get free time your gonna get behind. Place needs a professional manager who will work the same hours as the employees. I would bet dollars to doughnuts to gm doesn't work the 3 am shifts...
