Been here once before. It's cool because it's right next to base and a strong supporter of the military.
First time we went, it was a pleasant experience. The food was hot and the bartender was nice.
Second time (tonight) was HORRIBLE. The food itself wasn't great but wasn't bad, but that's probably because they only had one server there doing what looked like everything but cooking, so the food wasn't too hot. Not her fault they were understaffed, so I don't blame her for that. It was probably pretty stressful to her being the only server there.
However, that doesn't excuse being rude to the customers. I've worked in restaurants for five years, and even if you're having a bad night, it's never okay to take it out on the customers, ESPECIALLY when they are being nice to you (like we were). It felt like our mere presence there put her into defense mode. It felt like nearly everything we did, it seemed like she had to correct and make us feel like we were in the wrong, even though we went out of our way to be nice.
That's the kicker, and sad to say, I will never go back to Duffy's again because of this experience. However, I do hope it continues to be a base favorite and that others will have a better experience...
Read moreWe have dined at Duffy's over the years but not for quite a while. On this last visit, we decided to order some food to go. It was wonderful! My husband had the yummy Irish Stew with beef, potatoes and carrots which he loved and also ordered a Chili Beef Dog, which he said was as good as it gets! I ordered the Sourdough Patty Melt with Cheddar Cheese and Grilled Onions and Fries. We also got a Cobb Salad with Turkey, our favorite. Everything was excellent! I want to sample the Garden Burger, next time. We see lots more items we want to try in the future and we'll be back soon. Nestled next to DLI, I love that it caters to the hard-working students who are mastering languages like Mandarin, Korean, Arabic and many others who need a good, reliable restaurant for comfort food and a nice atmosphere, both inside and out. A not-to-be missed Monterey tradition -...
Read moreCalled ahead of time and asked about the pasta. The person I spoke to told me the prices of the pasta and a few other food items because their website doesn't have menu prices. They failed to mention over the phone that they only serve the pasta part of the menu on certain days so when we drove all the way over there, it was nothing but a waste of time. The Tavern is labeled "Family Restaurant", yet does not have enough seating for families and the whole place smells like mildew, dirty laundry and bad body odor. Don't get your hopes up about eating here, they have a small menu and half if it they don't even serve on certain days. Word of advice, go somewhere else if you want good food, and a clean place to eat. First time going into this place and it was an absolute...
