Ok, first off, let's start with the negatives...the inside is uninviting unless you like loud Turkish music blasting in your ear. Outside is just a little more inviting than the inside, where Panhandlers enthusiastically greet you amidst the dusty pavement. And if you are as lucky as me, you'll get serenaded by an opulent bald headed man barking loudly into his smartphone in a dialect from a land far, far away.
But alas dear reader, the crepe and Turkish coffee will arrive and the aroma and taste will deliver you from this bad dream! The pain and suffering I experienced was alleviated from the Turkish coffee alone. The pungent, gritty concoction is truly unamerican...and that is a beautiful thing when it comes to food and drink. Unfortunately, you need to sit there to truly get the Turkish coffee experience...if you do take out, it's not the same. The crepe was simple and it appeared uninspiring, but the taste was surprisingly aromatic and satisfying. I think the menu is more expensive than reasonable. The service is not entirely hospitable. But where else are you going to get an authentic Turkish coffee to wash down an above average crepe?...
Read moreCalled Monterey Crepe Company this morning to order 2 dozen crepes. Young man on the phone said that they were running a little low, but that he could give me 20 pre-made crepes from this morning for $35. I said I would take it and be there in 20 minutes.
I drove for 20 minutes, parked, patiently waited in line for another 5-10 minutes, then was told at the register by a female employee that the price was $60, even though the guy from this morning was right beside her and acknowledged my earlier order at lower price. Crepes were plain, cold, and pre-made, with little care to properly wrap them in foil. I purchased them for $60 as asked, since I already wasted a trip and had family waiting for me to bring them home, with this review to follow. It's a local business with potential, and my wife and I had been coming here for years, but today it was run by teenage kids who don't understand customer loyalty and importance of honoring prices. I would have had no problem paying $60 if they were made to order and if that price was quoted upfront. Yelp review and possibly BBB...
Read moreCrepes have a decent flavor however after ordering from here a couple times there seems to be a disconnect between the descriptions online and what you actually get. Since it is in a good location downtown, it does get busy. My wife and I will usually place orders online ahead to avoid waiting and fighting for parking. However, our order always has something wrong. For example, their menu item for the savory crepe "Nutella" is different when ordering in person versus online. Online, the "Nutella" comes with fresh strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. In person, the "Nutella" is just Nutella on a crepe. But when ordering online, there is not another option to add the fresh fruit. So it is a little frustrating when you order and expect something but get nothing remotely close. I understand, we could avoid this by just ordering in person every time but sometimes when you have a busy day running around the easy option (I know lazy) is to place it online early so it's ready for pickup when your stopping by on...
