Let me tell you a story. My first introduction to Black Powder Coffee came at OTPH in Cornelius back when they operated as Public Grounds in the A.M.
I met a colleague there for coffee and without much thought, I ordered a typical cup of joe as I always do. As I grabbed a table, I proceed to engage in casual banter with my comrade. Somewhere in between our dialogue, I decided to take a sip of the wonderful nectar that is one of the most memorable hot liquid experiences I've had in a while. The world around me went silent, I lost all awareness of my surroundings and became one with the brew.
I drink a lot of coffee and I like experiencing new things. What I had that day was one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had and that will always be burned in my memory.
But here's the kicker, I foolishly did not take note of the exact roast I had that day and I've been on a journey to track down the culprit for that unexpected ecstasy. I have yet to zero in on it but it's been a blessing in disguise because is has led me to try so much more from these great roaster and everything is outstanding.
Exaggerations aside, Black Powder is by far my favorite roaster. I really did take a moment to pause and consciously acknowledge that the first cup I've ever had was extremely good. I actually did look at my cup and thought "Wow, that's really good!". I've had the pleasure of trying some wonderful beverages from various corners of the world and there have been some excellent options out there but Black Powder really hit me like never before.
Give these people a try whenever given the chance. They have plenty of roasts for just about anyone and I doubt you'll be...
Read moreUpdates: The bourbon coffee scent was a bit strong for me, but my team at work enjoyed it. Be careful if your work environment is a bit "sensitive" because this coffee will give you bourbon breath 😲😁😂. I didn't try it because I didn't like the scent, which could be because I had a migraine that day and was feeling sick. The next day, I brought in the Michigan Dark Cherry... Smelled so good! I drank it black with lots of sugar in ice, and it was good but it would be more like dessert if I had some soy milk. The Grandma's hot chocolate was yummy. I love a lot of sugar, and feel it is not sweet enough for me. But it is better for me with less sugar. I enjoyed it just the way it is. I really enjoyed trying the Black Powder Coffee.
Upon arriving at Black Powder Coffee... suite 10 is actually around the corner. When I got out of my car, I can smell the aroma of the coffee. The young lady who helped me was somewhat helpful. She hasn't tried all the coffee available, and not knowledge in all of them. Fortunately, she was able to answer most of my questions, and she was very helpful. The coffee is sold as whole beans, but they do offer the grinding service... For drip and for French Pressed. They had the 14kt Gold for sampling. I'm not a "bean water" drinker, prefer my coffee with cream and sugar and dessert like... The 14Kt Gold coffee was too bitter for me. I bought a bag of dark cherry and hot chocolate for me. I also got a bag of bourbon infused for my team at work, and a bag of reserved Ethiopian for my director who loves Ethiopian coffee. I hope he will...
Read moreEdit up to 5-Star) Every time I go there they are friendly and the coffee is always too good. I have been there several times now and got to go in back and see how they do their magic with the coffee beans. The owner and all there are easy to talk to and happy to explain their craft. Great place, great staff and great coffee! (Original Review) Store front was smaller than I expected but the coffee is good and it smells GREAT in there. Didn't get to go in and take a tour or see the roasting, which I had heard you can do. Would have liked that but apparently the guy was busy. Maybe next time. Otherwise the girl at the counter was nice and I got a sample cup while I was there. The coffee itself is 5-star Joe! Added edit: Also they sell Keurig reusable pods that are supposed to be compatible with Keurig 2.0. I specifically asked if it was compatible with 2.0 machine and was told it was. However it is not - you have to hack it to bypass the Keurig 2.0 license-lockout feature. I was able to make it work by using the old "cut the top off a licensed K-cup" hack, and when that was done the reusable pod makes a great silt-free cup of coffee and is very...
