Went to The Apothecary this past Friday evening for the first time as part of a "night before the wedding". After googling it, the indoor space looked to be on the smaller side, with plenty of room outdoors but mother nature wasn't on our side ... barely 60° outside, a complete downpour and wind that kept trying to turn my large umbrella inside out so obviously the outdoor seating was out of the question. From the moment we walked through the door, they knocked it out of the park! They showed where we could put our umbrellas out of the way, they had dishes stacked high with a variety of sandwiches, appetizers etc buffet style beginning with plates, silverware, napkins etc. Staff was always close by to take drink orders. I didn't see a menu but the Italian cold cut type sandwich/hoagie was excellent and so was the spinach dip! And the large soft pretzels sure tasted "made from scratch", highly recommend the pretzel appetizer! I was expecting average bar food, but this place is anything but! I always try to write reviews, good or not so good, especially for locally owned (at least I don't think this is a chain) businesses because I look at reviews myself but this place is a great place to check out in downtown Morgantown. Oh and its downtown but not just a college crowd which is also a plus! We had all ages in our group from toddlers all the way through seniors and we definitely didn't feel out of place!...
Read moreGreat food! Awesome beer choices! Cool atmosphere. Horrible service.
Sat down and hoped to get a server or something for food and drinks. Waited, no one came, then I went to the bar for service and flagging down one of the bartenders was hard they were all talking with what was maybe the regulars or their friends.
It seemed very cliquèy here among the staff and the customers. There was one female bartender who was very nice and helpful. But the other two looked miserable. My elderly mom asked the one of the bartenders for water when she was coughing and he told her to get it herself at the end of the bar. I get the premise of the self serve aspect here but wouldn’t you just try to be helpful a little bit in the service industry?
I feel like this bar is super charming and has great potential for this area, I could have been upsold on so many things here resulting in more sales or a higher tip for the employees. But none of the bartenders even really tried to engage. Alas, It was just kinda a weird standoffish experience. I honestly don’t know if I...
Read moreThe local place for you beef buffs in Morgantown and definitely my favorite place to grab a cold one. They carry quite a few local selections to the state however, my favorite aspect... they now carry things from Michigan (specifically Bell's and Founders). Not exactly certain how many drafts they have, but it's certainly more than 16 different beers and the best thing is they rotate their selection relatively quick! Tired of the college crowd? Looking for a more hipster joint that's likely to be filled with people that work in the industry and/or professionals? If so, this is certainly the place to stop by if you're thirsty and looking for something that's more than the typical corn/rice bill bubbly. They also have a decent bottle selection as well. Food selection is meager, so grab food before coming if your belly is empty - paninis, cheese/ meat plate, pepperoni rolls, etc. No liquor here. Credit cards accepted. Several board games...
