Madeleine Marie's — Restaurant in Morgantown

I’ve been wanting to order from here since the Wine & Jazz in 2019 when I had a steak salad that was so good I’ve been thinking about ever since. My boyfriend and I finally ordered take out tonight—the restaurant was super cute and the waiter was very nice and even brought the order out to the car since they were a bit behind. But I am soooo so disappointed in the food. Maybe I’m just hangry but I never write negative reviews, let alone on a local business but this is my personal experience and opinion. Like I said, I’ve literally been thinking about this place for two whole years now because of this one steak salad that I had; the steak was juicy and flavorful and the roasted veggies were so perfect. However, tonight the food was subpar at best. The medium rare steak and potatoes (pictured) were so dry and way too done. Veggie gnocchi was watery (but that could just be from using fresh veggies) and we also got a side of mac and cheese that was the best thing out of the order after heavily seasoning it. Overall, every single thing was weirdly bland and tasted like they forgot to season it (kitchen did look pretty busy when at pick up so could be a possibility?) and the steak was so dry/bland/overcooked. It was my first time here, and I wasn’t sure what to order, so I called & spoke w/ Tommy. He was fantastic & gave me a great recommendations. He did not miss! I got the Smoked Pork Chop feature with house-cured tasso ham, cornbread stuffing, green beans, and mashed potatoes, + a side of mac & cheese. From the moment I walked in, the incredible smell had my mouth watering, & you could tell right away that the food was made with love.

Although my picture isn’t the best (my son had the container upside down in the bag), the flavor was absolutely amazing. The meat was so tender it fell right off the bone!

My first time dining in .. or outside, as it were was as fabulous as my many take outs in the past. I always recommend ordering one of the specials. Had the crab cakes with housemate remoulade, fries and house salad with creamy radish dressing. As he handed me my salad he remembered I’d asked for no onion so he offered to have it remade. I said please just take them off & it would be fine. The best salad of any place in town & I don’t understand why I can’t replicate at home.
