Groggy Scallywag Coffee House — Restaurant in Morro Bay

We visited Groggy Scallywag Coffee House bright and early, arriving just as they opened, and we were pleasantly surprised by the experience.

I ordered a Mexican hot chocolate, and it was absolutely delicious—rich, creamy, and made with milk instead of water, which is exactly how it should be. It’s not often you find places that get it so right! My wife went with her usual—a latte. Her only critique was that she wished it had been a touch hotter, but otherwise, she thoroughly enjoyed it.

The overall atmosphere and service were great, and we left with smiles on our faces. This is definitely a spot we’ll revisit on our next trip.

Definite Stop for Cool People with Good Taste. PROS: Upon walking up to and into the establishment, I appreciated the style and theme. It's a little hidden but not hard to find - and though small, there is seating and space inside to feel comfortable. The employee was incredibly friendly and approachable, and even asked a couple of questions to get my drink just right based on my taste/preference (not common). The latte I ordered was perfect and the cinnamon roll was delicious. Quick service, and I purchased a tote bag from the adorable shop area too. So many wins. CONS: If there was a con, it would only be that it's a hidden treasure. But that's what pirates strive for, so it fits. Highly Recommend & Will Go...

My husband picked up coffee from Groggy Scallywag Coffee Shop twice in November 2023 while we were in town for vacation. It was the BEST coffee we've had from a coffee shop anywhere. On his second visit, he ordered me the Mocha hot and a Carmel Macchiato for himself. I don't typically like the Carmel Macchiato he would get at other establishments but I asked my husband to try it and it was AMAZING! I wish we had found this place sooner. He had picked up the coffee on our way out of town and I seriously contemplated turning around to get more. The service was also wonderful and very welcoming.
