My husband and I had dinner one Thursday night here while we were on vacation. We made a reservation the day before without a problem. We requested a reservation 30 minutes before sunset so we could ensure we would be able to see while having dinner. The restaurant is on the second floor. There are stairs and an elevator available. We were seated by a window with the most gorgeous view. We ordered oysters (from the Pacific) and Brussels sprouts as appetizers. My husband had their soup of the day. It was all delicious. The oysters were fresh and cleaned well. The brushless sprouts were flavorful and crunchy. My husband enjoyed his soup too. For main courses, my husband ordered the NY steak. It was cooked to perfection. It was very tasty and the portion being 12 Oz was filling. I ordered the local black cod and I was over the moon. I usually don't enjoy cod but since I didnt translate the name of the fish to Spanish (I know fishes by their Spanish name), I ordered based on the menu description. I'm so glad I did that. I guess I had never had cod cooked the right way before because it was fantastic. I still think about that dish. Finally, we ordered the lemon mousse for dessert. It was creamy, sweet, and tart. It was the perfect ending to our dinner. The service was perfect too. Our server was welcoming, had great recommendations, and came by at the right times. We didn't feel overwhelmed but also we didn't feel neglected. It was just right. We would 100% visit again!

We were visiting Morro Bay, California, and found this restaurant, Windows On The Water, on the Internet. We were given a seat at the window, but at this time of year (July), it is very common for the Bay to be completely fog-bound, and so it was this evening. So, no view. The restaurant is nice, but is a bit "faded" and needs a good update. The food is described as "fine dining", but I wouldn't use that descriptor. The food is good, well served, well presented and quite tasty, but definitely not "fine dining" in my use of the word (though it was expensive). We had very pleasant service from our server and we enjoyed our meal. I chose: - Bouillon Style Clam Chowder: Applewood Bacon, Tarragon Essence - Local Halibut: Warm Herb & Heirloom Tomato Salsa, Wilted Spinach, Avocado, Prosciutto Caponata Both dishes were good. The halibut was nicely cooked and the vegetables and caponata enhanced it nicely. I needed to add a little more seasoning. As with so many American restaurants, the portions were very large, and we saw many people taking away their leftovers. The halibut portions were huge and we both left some. Why not make the portions smaller, so that people can finish their plates, and reduce the price a little? Surely this would help with the huge problem of food waste, as well. ** Update: The owner has contacted us and invited us back as his guests. I was impressed by his integrity and graciousness. He was quick to arrange for our next visit, and I will update this review after we have our next, hopefully positive experience. ** Our second visit to Windows and unfortunately, probably our last. We made reservations 1 week prior, and when we arrived, they had us scheduled at another time. While they did seat us promptly, the waiter let us know no pastry chef, no pizza, shrimp cocktail, oysters....all because of the absent pastry chef??? Our drinks( Shirley Temple and Margarita) took 30 minutes, our salad 45. No bread offered. Our entrees arrived an hour after we were seated. My husband said his steak was OK...my burrata was OK as well ( being vegetarian, choices were very limited, see the absent pastry chef note). When the waiter presented our bill, he then apologized "for all the waits". Having been a waitress in a previous life, a periodic update while waiting for our order would have been appreciated. All in all, we will patronize one of the myriad of restaurants on Morro Bay on our next trip. Not the experience we expect for a $150+ dinner. One plus, amazing views of the bay.

his is THE restaurant to go to if you are looking for a fine dining experience with a view! The restaurant is the embodiment of refinement through simplicity. I love that the decor is so understated here because with almost every seat in the house having some view the windows overlooking the harbor and Morro Rock, you are not going to be looking around inside!

The service here is also impeccable! We had reservations and were promptly seated when we arrived. Our drink orders were immediately taken and I liked that they explicitly ask if you want water due to the drought. Their water is fantastic btw, as it has cucumbers in it, giving simple house water a nice little refreshment.

The food here is outstanding and the prices definitely reflect the quality. We had the abalone as an appetizer and it was fantastic! I paired this with a half glass of their Moscato D'Asti. I had the rare Fijian Ahi for my entree and it was beyond words! The wasabi glaze and sides it came with were just exquisite! I paired this with a half glass of their Gewurtztraminer. Our waitress was just delightful and she did us a solid as there were four of us collectively celebrating our birthdays in Jan, Feb, and March, so she gave us complimentary bday desserts, which were just outta this world! The lemon mousse was a revelation to my tastebuds! I paired this with a syrah port that was amazing!

I absolutely loved that they offered half glasses of some of their wines as this really allows you to experience some extraordinary wines without overwhelming your palate or your wallet.

They have an in-house Somm who used to own the local wineshop and he has put together an impressive wine list and offerings on their prix fixe menu.

Just an all-around magnificent dining experience well...

My girlfriend and I are in Morrow Bay this weekend, so we decided to go to Windows on the water. The restraunt itself was a very nice great ambiance to the place. We were there at 6 pm it wasn't very busy. We started off with drinks, which took quite a while, but the drinks were good. Next, We both shared a cesear salad which they replaced the romaine for Kale and the anchovies were over powering the salad that was a big mistake on the chef. Please don't mess up a classic salad with trying to do to much it's a salad don't try to to hard and having a whole anchovie just plopped on the salad was gross I think Dennys has a better salad then that. Let's move on to the albacore bruschetta, which was fantastic, actually. It was executed very well. My only criticism would be to put it on 5 small toast points and not on one big one it gets soggy too fast. Trust me, you will thank me later. Next up, we have the chef version of the clam chowder. This was a lighter watered-down version in a weird shallow bowl it was once again. The chef had an idea that ultimately failed it tasted like it was strained through a salty armpit on a hot summer day. Next up Korean short rib, it was ok kind of like hugging your sister. Next up, the Margherita pizza out of curiosity was this made by 2 different chefs at the same time cause the crust was fantastic, but the sauce cheese and the over greasy slice were bland. The cheese was like little pieces of melted plastic my 10year old can make a better pizza out of playdoe. So, all in all, this place looks elegant, but be warned everyone looks can be deceiving. Chefs, please balance your menu better it does have the ability to be great it does, but it's...
