Just the facts: I ordered Friday Night Special $12.95 - "All You Can Eat Seafood." Fried shrimp - fried fish - peel and eat shrimp. What arrived after 20 minutes was 7 medium over fried shrimp and one medium baked potato on a platter. I immediately ordered that the fish be brought. I quickly finished the 7 shrimp and potato to wait 10 minutes on the two fish sticks that arrived. I asked that another order of shrimp be brought. I finished the fish sticks to wait another 10 minutes for the second order of 4 butterfly fried shrimp. I asked that the third order be started. Finishing fried shrimp #11, we, (wife and I) waited another 10 minutes and the order had not arrived. We got up and went to pay and leave. Asked if there was a problem, I replied 15 shrimp in 45 minutes is not acceptable for an all you can eat special. The cook explained that due to people over ordering and leaving uneaten food on the AUCE specials, corporate implemented the policy of serving 4 shrimp at a time. Handing out 4 shrimp every quarter hour is patronizing and cheap. The decor: Bright yellow walls painted with cartoon frogs, ponds, and signage gives a decidedly day care feel to the place. Add in a painted concrete floor that the staff can hose down each night, and the effect is complete. Plus the combination is as nosy as a 747 jet engine. The drinks: We hold the opinion that the bartenders (two women about 21 years old) googled the drink recipes for a pomegranate martini, which did not taste like one, and a poor rum runner. The bar: Dark, nosy, ESPN on all channels tuned to base ball except one tuned to World Cup. The wait staff: Plentiful, knowledgeable, friendly, and not that attentive to empty drink glasses. The uniform of the wait staff is very low front cut tee shirts showing more cleavage than a Hooter girl. ( The server's name on the ticket is: "Double D". The response of the staff to our complaints was defensive and did not offer to adjust the bill or offer any discount on the next visit. It was a Friday night, however, over half the tables were empty. Cook times should have been faster, and wait staff more attentive. If you are passing through Mt. Dora, do not stop here expecting good food, good drinks, and attentive wait staff. Rather go to downtown Mt. Dora for several boutique type bars and restaurants, or go to Chilli's. About us: We both have long history in food service work and know about the behind the counter operations. We do not eat in the chain establishments when traveling and thought Frogger's was an independently...
Read moreThe owners need to really evaluate their staff at this location. Send in a secret shopper in and rate their experience. Take a look at your people's faces.... Then look at the people they are serving... Nobody is having a good time! Your servers are the face of your brand Froggers!!!!! I don't know if all of your servers hate their jobs but tonight ours did! Rhiannon needs some coaching in the customer experience department. From drink refill requests where we were snapped at with "I'm working on it!" To arguing with us about the menu's stated preparation of an entree where we had to pull a menu and show her what sauces came with which entree... She is not very effective in the customer service role. Two of our party members never got their food. Another two received a check before their food. One party member with a disclosed shellfish allergy was delivered a plate with shrimp.
Nobody ordered anything with special preparation. (Even if we had it would have been the server's responsibility to ensure it was delivered to the table as ordered. That is the purpose of tip compensation.) We came wanting to enjoy our friend's and family's company, have a few drinks, and enjoy a good meal.... That didn't happen tonight! We tried to resolve the issues with the manager. She was really nice but was a bit distracted by something on her apple watch and didn't seem very engaged while we expressed our grievance. However, She did promise to pull the server's in the back to talk to everyone after I had her look around at their facial expressions. But I think the bigger question is "WHY ARE THEY SO MISERABLE????" You are either hiring the wrong people or the people you have hired have lost their passion. That falls on leadership!!!
We made sure our server got at least 10% of a $300+ bill because nobody deserves to work for free regardless of their quatily of work. (We believe she failed to deliver on the experience of the froggers brand promising good fun, good food, and good people.... But everybody has to eat!)
PS: it might be a good idea to talk to your other servers about the impact to the business when they talk negatively about patrons in front of other guests while cleaning tables on the deck. It's probably not a very professional thing to talk about tips in front of guests period... But especially not in front of guests that have already had a pretty disappointing...
Read moreExcellent experiences. First time at Froggers. This is a franchise business with four locations in the area. We have driven by many times and finally decided to stop for late lunch on a Thursday. It was so good that we decided to come again on Sunday. Twice in one week. Both experiences were excellent with only one draw back, the kitchen is slow. That said the food is carefully prepared, beautifully plated and delicious. Worth the wait, even for sports bar food!
The building is easy spot with big signs and a bold GREEN color.
When we first walked in we found the restaurant lively, beautifully decorated, with plenty of seating in a large restaurant. This place is BIG and can accommodate groups easily.
We sat at a table although there are plenty of booths as well. The bar area beyond the main dining room is big as well with dining tables, high-top tables and ample seating at the bar. Beyond the bar, is the outdoor patio seating area which is big as well, with ample seating. This restaurant can accommodate ALOT of people.
The greeter and our waitress were charming and personable. Very attentive and helpful.
We both ordered bacon cheeseburgers without the bread. I had mine with double beef, double bacon and a fried egg with vegetables. My wife got the standard bacon cheeseburger with tater tots. We also got a 5 wing appetizer to sample the wings.
The food was hot and delicious. The two minor issues with the meal were tha (1) it took a long time to get the food. Twice as long as I would have expected. (2) I ordered my burger with pepper jack cheese and it came with American. We waited so long in refused to say anything and scrapped the cheese off.
It was such a great experience we decided to return in a few days and try a few more dishes. Three days later we were back.
Once again we experienced excellent service. This time we ordered the Froggers nachos, a White Pizza and 10 chicken wings. Consistent with our first visit the food was excellent. And the wait time significantly. It’s worth the wait for the food, no question. But set your expectations. The folks in the kitchen are pro’s and they take their time.
Absolutely worth going! I...
