Modern Nail Spa — Local services in Mount Dora

I came to Modern Nail Spa after a bad experience at another salon, and I’m so glad I did. The two technicians I worked with were absolutely wonderful—patient, attentive, and committed to making sure I left with a design I truly loved (the first picture). I couldn’t be happier with how my nails turned out! The salon itself was also clean and well-maintained.

That said, I have to be honest about the overall experience. I came in with two other people, and unfortunately, they didn’t receive the same level of care. My cousin’s technician, a younger male, openly expressed that he didn’t want to be there and didn’t enjoy doing nails. He complained throughout her appointment, disregarded her preferences, and ended up cutting her multiple times. My mom’s technician, a young woman, spoke politely, but her demeanor felt cold and she did a rushed job with my mom’s set—including harsh cuticle work and a very unblended gradient design (second picture is what she got, third is what she wanted). My mom offered multiple times to switch to a solid color if the technician didn’t feel confident doing the gradient, but the technician insisted she choose whichever option she preferred—implying she was confident in doing the gradient if that’s what my mom wanted.

While I personally had a great experience and love my nails, the inconsistent service between technicians makes me hesitant to return. I hope this feedback helps the salon improve, because they clearly have some amazing talent—and I’d love to see that standard applied...

This was my first and last visit to this salon. I made an appointment a week in advance for a basic mani pedi. I stressed the basic as most salons see the length of my nails and think that they are false. Upon arrival I was greeted by a guy (manager/owner ?). The tech had not yet arrived. Once she did, the guy informed her of my request for basic mani/pedi services. She showed me the card displaying options. I told her again that I wanted THE BASIC mani/pedi. I began to relax and read. She used the UV light to dry my toenails. I thought it was strange but hey, maybe it works for regular polish too. During the process the guy owner/manager reminded her that the mani/pedi was BASIC. She rushed through the mani as she had another client to see. Time for check out and I’m told $71.!! Then she lied and told the person checking me out that I came in with gel on my toes so she thought that’s what I wanted. WRONG!! Before this screwup I’d never had gel! Guess what! No tip and I’ll encourage others to stay away too. If you’re in a profession of service to others, you must be able to FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS!! ** in response to your response: why would I need to bring it to your attention? You were present and heard the conversation??! What?? For you to make light of my feelings concerning the ordeal makes it worse! Are you kidding? I should have refused to pay for a service that I did not request and that would have been...
