I rarely write scathing reviews, but this place was absolutely terrible. I’ve lived here my whole life and this was the first time trying any Bamboo location as I love me some cheap American Chinese food, but everything went into the trash. I’m pretty sure I will have mild food poisoning tomorrow from the small bit I ate. Some details:
Wonton soup: wontons were okay enough I guess, but the broth literally tasted like salted pool water… I’m talking like chlorine mixed with salt… just awful
Fried pork gyoza quite literally the only semi-decent tasting item but pretty bland on their own without the dipping sauce
Chicken teriyaki Maybe I’m a dumdum, but I’ve literally never gotten chicken teriyaki ANYWHERE in my life where the chicken is battered and deep fried like it is in General Tso’s or sesame chicken or whatever. It has ALWAYS been grilled in some way. This was oily, WAY over-battered fried nonsense. Like 50% chicken to 50% oily fried batter. And almost no teriyaki sauce. I actually had to put my own on it, mixed with soy sauce, yet somehow, despite a lack of teriyaki sauce from the restaurant, the food was too sweet initially (hence adding the soy sauce). I don’t even know how that’s possible. I ate a quarter of it and stopped. Gross
Beef lo-mein: I tried this last. Thought maybe it would be the saving grace. I opened the container and was IMMEDIATELY met with foul smells. Like, omg no. I stepped back, waited a second, then smelled it again. Horrid. I thought maybe I was just going crazy, so I tried a spoonful. 3 seconds into chewing it I spit it out. Clearly the beef was rancid as hell. Like. Send you to the hospital rancid. Absolutely abhorrent. I spit everything out as much as I could and literally rinsed my mouth under a running faucet. I am now legit concerned for my health tomorrow after eating 2 of the wontons in the soup, 3 of the gyoza, and about a third or so of the teriyaki chicken.
I am very much not a “one and done” person with restaurants bc everyone has on and off nights. But this place? NEVER again. Oh my god. $40 down the drain (or rather, into the trash, and hopefully not explosively into the...
Read moreI eat here every single Friday--Chinese Friday. I'm not sure what these people are talking about on here. Their food is the best Chinese take-out in Mount Pleasant! I have sampled most of the menu and the only two things I've ever found that I DON'T like are the Shrimp in Lobster sauce & the Shrimp Toast--Both were too fishy/seafoody for me, but when I explained that it wasn't good they gladly replaced my meal with another entrée of my choice.
I compare all other Lo Meins to this one! I get the Chicken Lo Mein and it's awesome!
The eggrolls aren't the best I've ever had, but by FAR not the worst--they are pretty middle of line.
The Crab Rangoons are my favorite thing on the menu! They are huge and packed FULL of yumminess--lots of cream cheese and crab. They might not be as you would expect--instead of them being pursed in a spring roll type wrapper, Bamboo Garden uses their eggroll wrapper and makes them into triangles, thus allowing for all the flavor!
Their white rice is just the right amount of sticky; not too dry.
Sesame Chicken with White Rice is one of my go-tos there! That and the General Tso's.
The lunch portions are plentiful and you will leave feeling pleasantly full! I'm pretty sure that all the lunch specials are under $7--you can't get a fast food meal to go for that! Granted, drink isn't included, but they do have water cups :-) and those are...
Read moreFrom the outside it's very unassuming and looks like a little hole in the wall of the strip mall it's in but it's by far the best local Chinese food I've had so far. I always get it to go and never wait long for it. Their fried rice is perfectly delicious and my absolute favorite is their Sesame Chicken. The meal portions are (to me) ridiculously big and I can put down some Chinese food. I haven't made my way all through their menu because I have my personal go-to dishes but their spring rolls are also perfect. The best part? They're open SEVEN DAYS A WEEK! Yeah, you heard right. If you're looking for just plan good Chinese without any fanciness and at a good value for $$, then Bamboo Garden is your best bet in...
