I visited Boxcar Betty’s in Mt. Pleasant yesterday and had a mixed experience. I ordered the jalapeño smash burger in the double smash burger configuration, and I was completely happy with it. It’s great to see they offer it in a double size, and it was delicious.
I had been to Boxcar Betty’s before at the West Ashley location, where I remembered the fries being absolutely amazing. This time, I ordered a large fry and was not disappointed. The hand-cut potatoes seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic, and onion powder were worth every penny.
However, the burger didn’t quite live up to my expectations. It was comparable to the butter burger at Culver’s, which is good but not exceptional. The price of the burger seemed a bit high for what it was. I’d actually prefer to swap the price for Culver’s and still get those incredible fries.
Additionally, there were a few minor issues. My guest asked for no relish on their burger, and while the relish was credited at $0.35, we were also charged $0.35 for BBQ sauce that we decided to add. The seating and table were sticky, which I assume might be due to the cleaning products used or the material of the furniture, but it was a bit off-putting.
Overall, the fries are definitely a highlight, but the burger price and cleanliness could use some improvement. If the burger price were more in line with its value, I’d be a regular at...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer to Boxcar Betty’s since they opened. They used to be a great place to get some chicken or something similar on their menu for a decent price. However, after my last experience, I will no longer be returning. First of all, it you want an extra side of a sauce as simple as mustard or ketchup, they will charge you anywhere from 25¢ to 35¢ extra. That is ridiculous considering mustard nor ketchup is that pricy. Secondly, the last time I visited, my husband ordered me a fountain drink cup while he just got himself a free water cup. I filled mine with tea. My tea was extra good and I wanted to him to try it, so I poured some of my tea into his water cup. We sipped on our drinks as we waited for our food. When one of the female workers brought us our meals, she told us that she was going to charge us for another drink simply because my husband had a bit of tea in his cup. First of all, the tea came from MY cup which we PAID FOR. Charging someone $3 for a small amount of tea is absolutely insane. The food is still pretty good but the service is not what it used to be. They have become incredibly stingy and petty, especially since we have been supporters since roughly 2019. Will not be...
Read moreFirst time…disappointing…no line, no one in restaurant, walked in to order so thought it would be made fresh…sandwich was soggy all around, bread and fried chicken and fries all floppy and soggy… :( especially after spending $32 and my friend got the same thing and didn’t even eat half of it :( if I was in the store, I would have been able to walk up to counter and ask for a remake….
Reply to rude owners response…I wouldn’t ever expect an owner to respond in a negative way and maybe be sympathetic and offer some sort of recourse or apology…another disappointment…it was only a 5 minute drive from the store which is why I chose to grab take out and opened it in my car because I was starving and we opened it within a minute of getting to house and she took two bites and didn’t like it and mine was in a puddle of sauce and nothing about it was crispy or fresh tasting and I couldn’t finish mine either..:I’m not in attack mode…I only leave reviews when I’ve paid a lot and can’t even force myself or friend to eat the meal we were super looking forward to. Thanks for being awesome in...
