I don't review much, but this is Review Worthy!!
I live an hour plus away from La Pizzeria. I had to make a trip to MUSC last year with my mother, and we were always on the look out for good pizza. I grew up 28yrs in North Jersey, 5 miles from NYC. So I would like to think I know good Pizza, and Im quite picky about it. We stopped in and got a large pie with mushroom to go, on the way out I saw a Margherita Pizza sitting in the counter, and got a slice of that to try. Both ended up being excellent! Down in the south, I've been very disappointed with pizza, especially Margherita Pizza. If a place puts sliced tomatoes on a pizza and calls it Margherita, they should not be in business. We'll thats what most of them do, and its horrible. Their Margherita had fresh mozz, globs of tasty tomato sauce, and fresh basil scattered all over the top.The way it should be! I was in Mount Pleasant today 1/26/2014 with a friend, and was excited to get La Pizzeria again before we head out of Mount Pleasant. I dined in this time, and we got a whole Margherita pizza, and it was excellent. Granted its not like walking into a 80 yr old pizzeria in NYC or NJ. but for down here, its some of the best I've had. Small cozy place, great service, excellent food. Prices are on the higher end. you're looking at $20 for a pie. It's worth it as a treat every now and then. If you're in the Mount Pleasant area anytime in the near future, I would definitely give La...

Today is "Pi Day" and I wanted pizza. I asked my friend Owen who lives here for his recommendation on the best pizza in Mount Pleasant. Without hesitation, he said La Pizzeria is Italian style pizza. I told him that I had just returned from Napoli last month where I had pizza at the restaurant that invented margherita pizza and so the standards are going to be high. He said not to worry and that the owner is Italian and she doesn't speak much English. Okay, Owen. Let's see.
Warmly greeted and seated immediately when I arrived at around 5:30 pm, a friendly waitress took my order and returned with my beer and a bowl of bread with olive oil. The bread was excellent. All good so far. Small caesar salad to start. Nice fresh greens, excellent croutons, delicious dressing. Is this fresh grated parmesan? I'm thinking not. Then the pizza arrives. I chose the San Gennaro, having had pizza at the famous Porta San Genarro. Sausage, carmelized onions, green peppers. Presentation? Excellent. Hot, melted cheese. Charred edges. Nicely topped. How was it? Absolutely excellent. A little fresh red pepper on top and it was perfect. And as tribute, I ate with knife and fork like a proper Neapolitan.
Molto delizioso! Perfect...
Read moreLa Pizzeria has been an amazing hidden gem for a number of years. Tucked in a small shopping plaza they have a surprisingly vast menu that expands much further than just good pizza (although they have that, too). New specials are created every week which are almost always the way to go. The love behind each dish is apparent and appreciated.
Our most recent visit we decided to go all out. We had a spectacular bottle of Montepulciano wine with an exquisite gnocchi appetizer. Between all orders we got stromboli, veal piccata, the veal special, and the shrimp pasta special. I hate to say I don't remember what was in the specials, but the shrimp dish was my personal favorite (picture included).
We finished with three unique deserts. The bomba is a hardened chocolate shell filled with gelato, a cherry, and some crushed almonds. They are so incredible that we ordered two. We also had the always outstanding homemade tiramisu. If you've never had it, you are missing out. We also ordered a chocolate mousse cake which was just as devoured as each desert before it.
I look forward to our next visit to La Pizzeria. We are always greeted by friendly staff who have a genuine interest in making our visit memorable, and they never...
