Walked in to a warm welcome, it was busy at 1 with lots of diners-in, on the patio, and bustling take-out. Told them it was my first visit and they were thrilled to show me their best. Talked about how best to preserve the freshness of these amazing, toothy, chewy, perfectly prepared bagels so I can impress my friends Saturday with my half dozen assorted and their housemade veggie cream cheese. Cut in half, bag individually, freeze. Thaw out of the bag and toast. Good as they were today.
And boy, howdy, was it good! The Chopped on Sundried Tomato and Asiago because Everything and Egg Everything were sold out. If you want an Everything bagel, show up early. Apparently they're the go-to! The filling was comprised of Cream Cheese, Lox, Red Onion, Crispy Bacon, Capers, Cucumbers, Dill, Herbs, and Garlic. First bites were very herbaceous, smoky with bacon, heavy green flavors from the capers, cucumber, and herbs. I didn't quite expect everything to be so ...ahem... Chopped. My B. So it was a bit squishy and I had to handle with care to keep the insides in until getting in my bites. Took me until my last 4 bites to hit the lox but HELLO! There it was in all its fishy glory. It reminded me of why I need quality NY bagels in my life. Those last bites made me thrilled when I remembered I have the other half in the fridge.
The bagel sandwiches are pricey but when you get 2 meals from it, it's less costly than bad food. Think big! And show up early for Everything!
Thanks again, guys. I will...
Read moreI gave 3 stars but will happily give Ruby's another shot after they get some experience under their belt. (They've only been open 4 days). Let me start with the bagels were definitely fantastic. BUT we went on a Sunday, the line was 40+ people long, out the door and down the block. We hoped that the large amount of people would mean taste tested good food but unfortunately after waiting for 1 hour in line and 45 minutes to receive our food our "Goat Cheese Sandwich" came with the least amount of goat cheese I've seen on a sandwich before...it was almost comical. I attached a photo to my review below. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese to test how much cream cheese was put on the bagel because in NYC their famous for piling the cream cheese on and sadly it was also a very small amount. I always look for the best in a place to focus on and I will do another drop in test to order the same items to see if anything has changed in a a week or so...and update my review accordingly. Charleston needs a fantastic bagel shop and I want Ruby's to be that shop...if they tighten up their service, engage personally and thank patrons for waiting nearly 2 hours for food, and continue making their delicious bagels they will be...
Read moreI love the food at Ruby’s, but today we had a bad experience with an online order. Placed an online order because I received a 15% off incentive email, and we hadn’t had Ruby’s in a while. We placed our order around 9:30 and estimated order ready time was 9:52. We arrived at Ruby’s right around 9:52 and our order wasn’t ready yet — not an issue, as they were definitely slammed!! I was okay to wait a few minutes. However, our order was not ready until 10:30…approximately ONE HOUR after it was placed. I feel as though we could have gotten in the line that was all the way to the door when we arrived and our order would have been ready far ahead of when we received our online order. In addition, our order was not complicated — just two bagel sandwiches and a dozen bagels to take home. Super disappointed with this Ruby’s experience. Seems like they might be running too many online platforms for them to be efficient, or maybe platforms aren’t integrated well, as there were people who were receiving pick up orders that were due far after ours (and even due in the future!)...
