I usually enjoy dining at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. However, this is the most poorly managed location I have ever had the misfortune of going to. I have been here on a few occasions and every time my experience has been less than desirable.
On my most recent visit, there were three employees and only one customer in the building. The guy taking my order appeared to be new or did not know how to work the register properly. The lady, who appeared to be the manager (or at least the veteran employee), offered no assistance as she was more concerned with chatting with her two friends who were in the building at the time. The second male employee only seemed interested in flirting with the three girls. Although there was only one other customer in the building, it took an extraordinarily long time to get my food.
Prior to visiting the store, I called multiple times to attempt to place a to-go order. No one ever answered the phone. In fact, nearly every time I have gone to this specific location I have tried to call to place my order in advance and have never been able to get an answer. Considering how slow they are, it is quite frustrating that I cannot place my order in advance.
After my latest visit, I decided to send a Facebook message to see if perhaps their phone was broken. The owner, Jeff Walker, responded saying that it is not feasible for them to answer the phone if they are busy (it was 3pm and only 1 customer and 3 employees were in the store). He suggested that I download their app to place a to go order. While I agree that it is more convenient to order using an app than to deal with incompetent employees over the phone - it is not ideal when driving. Read moreI used to work at this plaza and frequently visited this particular tropical smoothie and always received kind and conscientious service with the occasional reminder of them for getting my side. All was good. This time however, I waited at the register to place my order for over 5 minutes without any greeting or acknowledgement from either of the two staff members behind the counter. When I asked if there were someone there to take orders, "Wayne" (as he identified himself) of aggressively and very condescendingly replied "There are two of us here and we will get to you as soon as we are caught up". Once Wayne was gracious enough to take my order, which was a Caribbean jerk Chicken wrap with an apple for a side, he proceeded to make the wrap and set the bag in front of me then, in a sarcastic tone, wished me a nice day. This was awhile ago, I ordered a sunrise sunset, it looked very good but once I tried to have a sip it was frozen and I tried to drink it later of course it was frozen. I’m not sure if they hired some new people because this smoothie place used to be really good. As a loyal customer here in the past, I won’t be going here at all. The cashier was nice , but whoever is making the smoothies they should ether be fired or get training. I get it, that people got to make a living. I for one like never complain unless it’s very disappointing. This smoothie place is going downhill fast. I feel bad for the customers , especially the ones having a smoothie here. If anyone wants their smoothie frozen then go right ahead. I hope this makes a huge difference for this smoothie for the future.
