Kusan Bazaar is such a gem! The food was absolutely delicious and truly unique. Everything is halal and MSG-free, which made the meal feel even more comforting and fresh.
We started with a yogurt drink that was light, tangy, and so refreshing. The appetizers were incredible. The Uyghur salad was bright and crunchy, the cucumber salad was super crisp and cooling, the eggplant salad was super flavorful, and the cold chili chicken had just the right kick of heat balanced with flavor.
For mains, everything was a standout. The crispy roasted lamb rib was perfectly seasoned and had a satisfying crunch. The Wellington-style roast lamb shank was impressive both in presentation and flavor - tender and wrapped beautifully. The beef and lamb dumplings were juicy, savory, and so comforting. The Uyghur lamb wraps and chicken wraps were packed with flavor and wrapped in soft bread that made them extra satisfying. The pilafs were some of my favorites - the braised beef cubes pilaf and braised lamb pilaf were hearty and flavorful, but the 6-hour braised lamb shank pilaf really stole the show with its tender, fall-off-the-bone lamb. The lamb broth with mini wontons was rich yet light - the perfect comforting end to the meal.
On top of all that, the service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the whole dining experience even better. The decor was also really cute and modern, giving the restaurant a warm yet stylish vibe.
Highly recommend checking this place out. Definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find! Kushan Bazaar is the newest restaurant in this San Antonio strip mall across from San Antonio Shopping Center and it’s easily one of the best Uyghur cuisine spots that I’ve tried. It’s their second location after their location in Milpitas (and coming to San Jose) and is a wonderful addition to the area.
The menu has a variety of rice plates, soups and appetizers and everything we sampled was flavorful and made with such care. It really reminded me of home cooking with simple ingredients and fresh toppings such as cilantro, peppers and onions.
The home made yogurt is a tasty and nutritious dessert and the cold chili chicken was excellent.
The signature rice pilaf is a generous portion and I loved the lightly stir fried vegetables and simple yogurt dip as well as chili oil and spice to dip the beef cubes. The beef cubes are not as tender as the lamb shank but still tasty.
I personally chose the lamb filled mini wontons with lamb broth and it’s a filling hot soup filled with fresh cut ingredients, savory slices of beef and those cute mini wontons. As a soup fan, I really enjoyed this dish.

Finally, unlike our recent visit to the acclaimed Mrs. Khan’s, we found the flavors here less salty and much more refreshing. I couldn’t be happier with this unexpected find.

Read moreI almost never review a restaurant based on a takeout experience, but I had to make an exception. The Mountain View location of Kusan Bazaar follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, maintaining the quality & ambiance while simplifying the menu. It is more suitable for takeout and casual dining, though the interior is way nicer than most "casual" restaurants.
I ordered the Samsa and the Braised Beef Cubes Pilaf; the latter comes with a side Uyghur Salad and yogurt. The pickup service was friendly, and my food was ready roughly when estimated. But I was pleasantly surprised when I was provided a Honey Lemon Flavor Yoghurt on the house! (Normally it's $6.50) From past experience, I know Kusan can be very generous, and I was happy to see this trend continue.
Now for the actual food. The Samsa were well-seasoned and satisfying. The Pilaf was filling and full of flavor. The Yoghurt was refreshing. I don't really have any complaints with the quality or portions!
Kusan Bazaar is close to my current address, and I'm excited to come back and maybe...
