This will get a bit long, but the short version is that I had a similar experience to Yuan Zhang - MV Apartments caused $4700 worth of damage to my car and did absolutely nothing to help me escalate the situation, get insurance information for the contractors who did the work, or follow up on the issue.
I was one of the first residents to move into MV Apartments in Fall 2021. Management under Johnny was phenomenal; he was always around the community making sure things were in order, and resident events were well organized. I moved out in Fall 2023, after 2 years.
I believe management changed sometime early this year (2023). The community manager and leasing agents all changed. MV became significantly less well run. Resident events in particular were very poorly managed in comparison.
In March 2023, the P2 parking level began having water leaks. I did not previously see or use my P2 parking spot. I purchased a new car in May 2023 and informed management that my parking spot was flooded. I am not sure how, besides through extreme negligence, they allowed the problem to continue without bothering to fix it for months.
I repeatedly went to management to ask when they would fix the flooding. They eventually had contractors come in June 2023 to fix the water damage. Whatever these contractors used - I think it was spray foam in the walls, but I wouldn’t know because management could not be bothered to help me contact the contractors to find out what it was - they got all over the back of my car. I did not drive the week the contractors came, so it could not have been anything else that damaged my car. It cured effectively into hardened glue.
Management claimed the contractors claimed they would cover cars. Evidently, they did not. Management is obligated to give notice about work being done, but did not send out any notice, and claimed they did not know it was happening. I only found out after, from handwritten signs posted on the parking walls.
This was an extremely stressful situation for me. I had to take dozens of hours off work to see multiple car detailers, who told me there was nothing they could do and I would have to go to a body shop. In the end, I had to go through my own insurance and take more time off work for body shop trips.
On this brand new car, repairs took three weeks, after multiple delays, because of the extent of the damage. It did not help that, because I could not tell the shop what material was used, the shop was not able to properly estimate repair time. They had to sand down or replace all the rear panels and then repaint them.
Throughout this ordeal, I sent management a dozen emails asking them to please get me the name or contact information of the contractors and to help me escalate the situation. I went in person a dozen times. A leasing agent even told the community manager (I do not know who she is because I never saw her leave her office or send out communications) in person, while I was standing right outside, and she did not even come outside to acknowledge me or the situation. They did at some point say that they would give me a $250 credit, which, thanks? But I never received this either.
I am appalled to hear that this happened to someone else. I would avoid MV at all costs, given that management has proven they have zero accountability and have displayed massive negligence and incompetence.
The only positive thing I can say about MV is that they did, at least, return my deposit, -$100. This was maybe used for cleaning, but they did not send itemized deductions, and my request for this has been ignored, so...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed with the way this apartment management company handled our move-out process. The experience was nothing short of frustrating and unprofessional, primarily due to the hidden and repetitive charges that were never disclosed to us beforehand.
First, they charged us an extra cleaning fee on top of their preset 230-dollar cleaning fee for all 2-bedroom units. We left the apartment in good condition, with only a few unwanted items, including a queen-size mattress and some small miscellaneous pieces. We assumed these would be covered under the standard cleaning fee, but instead, they slapped us with an additional 40-dollar-per-hour "trashing fee," claiming it took 2 hours to dispose of the items. This charge was never mentioned in our lease or move-out instructions, and it feels like a blatant money grab.
To make matters worse, they charged us an extra painting fee because we lived there for less than 2 years (we were there for 20 months). When we asked for an explanation of how this fee was calculated, they refused to provide any details. It’s incredibly unfair to charge tenants for normal wear and tear without transparency.
The most infuriating part of this experience was the complete lack of communication from the management team. We emailed them multiple times over the course of a month, trying to dispute these unreasonable charges. Each time, they ghosted us, saying that only the manager could handle the issue and that they would call us. It’s been over a month since our first contact, and we still haven’t heard back. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable.
Overall, this company seems more interested in nickel-and-diming former tenants than maintaining a good reputation. The hidden fees, lack of transparency, and terrible communication have left a sour taste in my mouth. I would strongly advise anyone considering renting from them to think twice and read the fine print carefully—otherwise, you might end up with unexpected charges and no way to...
Read moreUpdated on 03/19/2024 The previous management was performing under the average for sure, and now I can tell the new one is the same as before. I totally cannot understand how those people who left 5 star review for this property in the past month got the prompt help from the management, but what I can tell is I totally don't get anything. I sent email to the office gently to report any building related issues to the office but has never got anything back from the first email. If I don't send them multiple emails to push the issue forward, I will be totally igored for sure. This is weird, why all the agents have 2 faces, one is in their office to new protential customers and another for their tenants?
Legacy reviews but still happens! Let's talk about the parking in this so-called "Luxury" apartment. The garage has had water leaking everywhere since the day I moved in (end of April), and the building management has never thought to completely fix it. The management hired some contractors to constantly get into the garage regardless of the cars around and my newly purchased (less than 3 weeks) car's paint was deeply scratched and dented by their drills and other sharp hardware tools that hanging around their waist. Every hole that they drilled on the wall corresponds to a spot of scratches and dents on my car. The total number of damages on my car is an accumulative number, by far I have found more than 7 spots of damages. The total cost could be over $2000 so far. The management of this building is a nightmare, don't even think they can provide any help. The general manager of this building has only known to push her work to the poor leasing agents or say "Nothing we could help". For the shifter issues, I totally agree with the review that Haris Ahmad wrote a few days before me. The parking is already extremely narrow, then the management put some "shifters" to maximize the "available" parking spots. The gates of the shifters are constantly out of service, then you cannot close...
